Is there a reason why we aren't allowed to edit our posts? I'm forever making spelling mistakes! Even if we could edit for sat 30 seconds after posting that would help.

Say not sat - prime example!

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We do see where you're coming from, but we do have a reason for this. If posters could go back and edit their posts, we're a bit concerned that there would be a lot of "rewriting history" going on which at times would have the potential to make threads hard to follow.

We hope that clears things up a bit, but do let us know if we have any questions.

Thank you for the swift reply. I completely understand what you are saying but what about the 30 second rule I suggested?

Preview button .

Other forums have a warning added so that if a post is edited after new posts are made it then says "edited at date and time, edited 3 times" so it's clear.

Or Facebook lets you view the previous version of posts and comments.

I think a minute or couple of minutes max is enough for us to realise on reading back that the autocorrected word makes our original post nonsense

Heuschrecke · 06/12/2018 15:08

I agree with, Flibberty, use the Preview Message button before you click on Post Message. At least in Preview you can correct your errors.

AnyaMumsnet · 07/12/2018 10:53

Hi again OP,

As other posters have suggested, you can use the preview button before you post, to check for typos.

If you need a post edited, do give MNHQ a shout - we can't always help, but most of the time we are happy to do it for you.

We hope this helps.
