Do people like the tagging thing?

I can see that it's useful, if somebody's replied to you on a thread that's moved on, and you might have mised it had you not got the email to say youd been tagged.

But what about when somebody takes a dislike to you on a thread and starts tagging you repeatedly like a dog with a bloody bone? Hey presto - inbox clogged up with vacuous crap.

Not a specific TAAT, as it hasn't actually happened to me yet, but I've seen several people pleading "stop tagging me!". So, is it working?

Or have there been loads of threads about this and I've missed them? The tagging thing is new to me.

There's a current thread in FWR which might interest you:

I don't mind it; but I noticed last week that if you hide a thread and are mentioned, you still get notified. That was a surprise; and seems a bit dangerous if you were hiding it for safety reasons...

TeenTimesTwo · 17/11/2018 20:57

I think tagging is useful to call someone to a thread.
If you don't want to be tagged then you can turn the email off.
if someone is tagging to be stalkerish/abusive then people should report to MN Admin.

Ah thanks ScreamingValenta

People are saying that turning off email notifications isn’t working, but I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for myself.

GerdaLovesLiIi · 18/11/2018 16:03

I have it turned off. It's too easy for it to be abused. Mind you, I have PM-ing turned off too, for similar reasons.

BertieBotts · 19/11/2018 11:49

I turned mine off because I've never liked tagging in general, people overuse it and it's annoying.

I don't mind being tagged if I haven't seen a post or havent been back to a thread in a while. I don't want you to tag me if I'm contributing to the thread since I'll be back. Some people tag every person they reply to on a post!

As it is I just turned it off completely but I guess some people must like it.

EsherGreen · 19/11/2018 11:52

and seems a bit dangerous if you were hiding it for safety reasons...

What do you mean “for safety reasons”? Hiding a thread only hides it for the person who’s signed in, not for anyone else.

I know. People on relationships or other sections often say they hide the thread when their partner etc is around; so it's not as easy to come across in the app if they're "checked up on".

That's not flawless in itself; but getting notifications for replies to a thread you've hidden isn't great.

BertieBotts · 19/11/2018 12:18

I sometimes hide threads which are making me too cross so I don't get tempted to come back and be mean... I assumed along the same lines Grin

I suppose a thread may become triggering too if someone had posted about something traumatic and you'd offered advice and later down the line it had become more graphic?

And less "safety" but still annoying - sometimes I post on TV threads when I'm caught up and then hide them when i get behind again to avoid spoilers.

Miscible · 19/11/2018 23:18

I have it turned off so if anyone tries to tag me they'll be disappointed. I must say, given you that you have no way of knowing whether the person concerned will ever be aware that you've tagged them, it does seem a bit pointless.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/11/2018 23:27

It is a bit Shroedingers Tag. For the tagger, who won't know if taggee has chosen to receive notifications or not.

Nb Yo Greeny long time no see, me ole mucker

EdWinchester · 19/11/2018 23:31

I hate it and switched it off ages ago.

Now off to switch off PMs. I didn’t know you could do that.

Heratnumber7 · 19/11/2018 23:33

I find it really annoying.
