Quoting and linking to quoted messages

How come we can't quote people's posts and also link back to quoted posts? Thanks

Cos the forum isn’t set up to do that. Mods can but posters can’t

Sparklingbrook · 04/10/2018 19:29

You can copy and paste quotes and then comment on them. Or just bold the poster's name.

adulthumanfemail · 04/10/2018 20:28

You'd think that such a massive forum would be set up like every other forum that exists!

OP posts:

Part of its charm and appeal I think!

Sparklingbrook · 04/10/2018 20:38

YY I think the fact it isn't like every other forum that exists is one of the best things about it.
You will be wanting a Like button next.

Plus MN has the best emoji. The Hmm face.

kviddics · 12/10/2018 20:15

Sparklingbrook, surely Biscuit is the best emoji on MN!

Regarding quoting, I definitely do think it has its merits especially on massive, fast-moving threads. With the current system of bolding excerpts from posts, you've really got to read through the entire thread to find replies to your questions or comments on something you'd typed out, which isn't always efficient.

Sparklingbrook · 12/10/2018 20:40

I don't see the point of the biscuit emoji. Hmm says it all.

tribpot · 12/10/2018 20:45

The biscuit is a throwback to the heady days when Gordon Brown was PM, Sparklingbrook. Bloody hell that seems like a long time ago.

There are all sorts of features missing from MN's 'custom' bulletin board software, like the ability to lock threads and merge them. But that's how they like it, apparently.

HelloSnow · 15/10/2018 17:08

Surely it should be about ease of use, to engage more people. a quote button would be so much easier than copying , pasting, bolding. Doesn't need to be fancy.

AuntieStella · 15/10/2018 20:10

I see absolutely no reason why MN needs to make itself moe like other sites.

If the time it takes to C&P is too much for what you want to say, then you don't need to do it (by which I mean either quote directly, or post on that MN thread). After all, as previous posters have said there are loads of other places which are more closely aligned to your preferences.

adulthumanfemail · 17/10/2018 16:57

@AuntieStella So serious! 😂

That's why I think it should go tribpot, it relates to something from years ago and doesn't serve any purpose.
