Changes to the Mumsnet pregnancy sections

Hi everyone, we’ve just released a new sign-up block on selected pregnancy pages, encouraging people to join Mumsnet and receive our weekly pregnancy emails.

We’re very aware that pop-ups on pages can be annoying, so this one is only targeted to new Mumsnet visitors – if you’re signed in you'll never see it, and if you dismiss it, you won't see it again (unless you change devices or clear your browser cache).

You can see an example here, if you’re logged out. What do you think? How could we make it better?

It's awful! I use private browsing almost all the time (often not signed in) and it's making browsing the Baby Names topic unbearable. It pops up every time I open a thread, on each page of the thread, and then when I click back to the main topic. I'm not even pregnant at the moment, just an onomastic enthusiast, which makes it twice as infuriating.

Hi Andromeda, unfortunately the only way we can tell whether you've seen it before is by setting a cookie in your browser. If the site detects the cookie or if you're logged in it won't be shown to you. However private mode prevents this from happening, so each time you load a page the site thinks you're a new visitor.

If you're concerned about privacy, I'd suggest using a different browser that you can delete all website data and history from at the end of each session, or installing a tracker blocker (shh, don't tell anyone I suggested this!).
