We?ve taken today's thread down because some of the comments were insulting and considered by us to be personal attacks. As you know we try as far as possible not to intervene with threads but won't accept posts of this nature on the boards. Please take a look at Rules and Netiquette to remind yourselves of our philosophy.

Ok, I can totally understand that. But here's my question (and I'm not trying to stir anything up or be cheeky about this-I genuinely want to know) but why was the Muslims-No thread allowed to survive and be archived? I'm having a really hard time understanding that, since it was filled with personal and racial attacks. I kept reading that expecting that would be something stopped and deleted, but it never happened.

have to say I'm struggling with the fact it was ok last week to publish a link to a website for cooking with cannabis.

Flossam · 22/08/2004 09:45

Sorry, I've been at work all night so I think I might have missed out on everything a bit. I just wanted to check was this the G*babe thread? Sorry nosy person alert!

I'd like to know what it was about too, but then I guess that'd be restarting whatever has been deleted!

SenoraPostrophe · 22/08/2004 10:11

No, I think MN are right to keep thread deletion to an absolute minimum. The muslims thread was distasteful and offensive, I agree, but it wasn't personal and the offending posters weren't trying to stir up hatred (they were just displaying their ignorance, as I recall - I haven't searched on the thread). There are plenty of other threads which I find distasteful and offensive (although not usually racist) and to single out the racist threads would be to invite accusations of censorship, unless all potentially offensive threads were deleted. That would be the death of MN.

Likewise the cannabis/cooking link - it's not illegal to publish recipes for cannabis. If it had been a link to a site selling cannabis, that would be a different thing.

Now im very curious , what have I missed?? What happened ?? Not wishing to stir it up again also , but raises suspicions doesnt it.

prufrock · 22/08/2004 14:09

And the other thing about the Muslims -No thread was that the vast majority of Mumsnetters comments on there were hugely critical of the original posters racist remarks.

melsy, ginababe was saying she was gina ford and was causing trouble over something evita had said back in december last year in another thread
