Why move the Brexit thread?

Guienne · 21/08/2018 15:42

Someone started a thread on Brexit in AIBU, specifically explaining that she had done so because she felt the topic in question needed wider circulation. Up pops MNHQ to hide it safely away in the Brexit subtopic. Why??? This is something that is going to affect all our lives really very soon, and the one and only reason given by MN is that that area is quite active anyway. As has been pointed out, you don't shunt Trump threads off to Politics, stroppy teenager moans off to Teenagers, or Trans threads off to Feminism. So why?

Because the reality of what Brexit is going to do to this country doesn’t fit in with the feel of this site. And we’ve got to keep the leavers happy! God forbid they actually realise what the fuck they’ve actually voted for.

namechange34 · 21/08/2018 15:47

Agreed, this is driving me nuts. Apart from being hugely important, the Brexit related threads in chat and aibu are interesting and engaging due to the variety of posters. Much as I like and appreciate the expertise of the Brexit board regulars, it is interesting to hear some other viewpoints sometimes!

prettybird · 21/08/2018 15:48

I'll repeat the post I've already written in that thread as it is equally appropriate here.

@Anyamumsnet @mumsnetHQ Why do you not move the Trump threads to Politics from AIBU? Or the ones about alcohol consumption in pregnancy to the Pregnancy topic? Or the ones complaining about their dh's behaviour to Relationships? Or the ones complaining about their stroppy teenager to Teenagers? Confused (I could go on but you get the picture Angry)

What is it that makes you collude with those that wish the subject of Brexit hidden away so that people can continue to stick their heads in the sand remain unaware of potential issues and concerns Sad. And I use the word "collude" deliberately. Angry

So true prettybird. I'm going to head over to aibu now and start reporting those that could go in other sections...but I can guess how well that's going to go

PestymcPestFace · 21/08/2018 16:02

Grin namechange Grin I just had a flick through with the same thought. Loads could go to relationships etc

Moussemoose · 21/08/2018 16:05

As I mentioned on 'the other thread'.

This is potentially one of the most important decisions since WW2. It needs to be discussed openly and by as many people as possible.

This is not some obscure political niche.

MrHoolieswaistcoat · 21/08/2018 16:12

I have reported 10 threads and asked that they are moved to the appropriate board.

AnyaMumsnet · 21/08/2018 16:18

Hi there everyone,

We've had a proper chat about this here and we understand where you're all coming from - we're going to move this back to AIBU.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 21/08/2018 16:26

Thanks OP, I am the OP of the original thread and I think it is so important not to have this debate locked to one side.

Thanks MN.

Hooray! Thanks Anya and team Flowers

Guienne · 21/08/2018 23:59

Thanks!

Yes, move this thread back to AIBU immediately!!!

So that every Remain voter can express their disgust, abhorrence and absolute outrage that some people ( you know, the thick racist ones) voted a different way.

Then those who didn’t vote the RIGHT way will hang their heads in shame and fall on their swords for actually thinking that the U.K. may just be ok out side of the EU

Hazardswan · 22/08/2018 00:18

Think it was so people could discuss the impact of brexit ahead of the technical notices Thursday.

No one needs to hang their heads in shame...

there are numerous petitions to sign and you could contact your MP to get them to save the NHS but definitely no shame
