Can I have two usernames?

I only have one username as I’ve never posted anything particularly identifying (or interesting ). However, I would like to start posting on a particular thread which would be identifying and which I wouldn’t want linked back to all my other posts, so if I create a new one for that thread will I have the option to switch back to the original one for my other posts, and if so how does it work?

Yes. You can either change your name back to original one, or you can just overtype the name in the name box (see screenshot), as long as you own the name.

On the mobile site click on Settings and change your name. Don’t know how it works in the app but should be simple. You can switch back and forth. As long as you don’t deliberately use two or more names to sock puppet on a thread.

Be aware, however, that switching between names inevitably means you end up accidentally posting in the wrong name! (Leading to hasty reporting of your own posts with lots of exclamation marks and pleading. MNHQ are usually quite kind if that happens.)
