Name change reveals

Twice this week when I've gone to reply on a thread and '@' the OP, a different username has been displayed as the OP.
Does this mean you're able to see their other name if they are flipping between 2 names? Because it's a bit awful if so Blush one of them has been a contentious thread and don't suppose the OP would want her 'real' username affiliated with it.

Do you mean when you type @ and then the OP’s name? Where is the different name displayed?

I’ve often wondered if this was possible! I think it would be funny!
