Why do people post fake stories?

Genuinely interested!

I saw one in the night last night which was very odd. Very long and drawn out, written in a very odd fashion. It was reported several times and taken down.

Why do some posters (this one had been banned previously too) make up stories to post? I don't get it. What do they gain from it? I'm obviously very naive!

Sometimes its just for fun, or interest. Just to see how people react. There are some odd posters here, the type who think people should be detained in case the commit a crime in the future.

Some people think it's fun to goad and fish them out.

Some people want validation. The 'I saw someone being murdered to death, AIBU to think this is bad !? Hmm.

They are irritating, and probably deserve sympathy. But Jesus, they are obvious, and irritating.

Some just think they are funny. Some are. Engage if you like, ignore if you like.

Some people take MN too seriously.

To add to the above:
Some want to make the papers
Some want to type out their weird fetishes and wank off to people reading their fantasy.
