Why can't we AS this any more?

Up until last week I could work out how many posts had been deleted, both for myself and for posters who might have been, erm, slightly questionable.

Now AS won't let me search by poster name + "message deleted by" any more.

Is there a reason for this? Because it seems to me (cynical as I am) that it's a very useful way to hide how many posts are deleted by certain MRAs goady posters in FWR

Duck duck quack! It's interesting, isn't it?

spontaneousgiventime · 26/06/2018 00:17

Good question. Someone mentioned when a thread is deleted on FWR you can't see it's footprint any more, it's like they didn't exist.

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 00:20

A cynical person might wonder whether there was a reason.

Obviously I'm not cynical Grin

I'm sure it's an error. It must be. There is no way that MNHQ might not want us to know how many posts certain goady, misogynistic, MRA, deluded, fantasist, flat earth and creationist posters have had deleted.

OP posts:
thebewilderness · 26/06/2018 00:48

There must be a glitch that prevents a proper search.

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 01:04

I don't think so bewilderness. I think it's deliberate.

Up until June 19th this year it was possible to AS "message deleted by MNHQ".

Now it isn't

thebewilderness · 26/06/2018 01:17

One of those improvements that make it harder for users? I know about those.

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 01:21

Yes. An improvement. But why? There must, surely, be a reason.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2018 02:08

I don't know... with my developer's hat on, it doesn't seem entirely unreasonable that if posts/threads are deleted then they're, well, deleted or not indexed for search.

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 02:13

Yes, but why now?

Last week "message deleted by MNHQ" was the text of the post. And it was searchable as such.

But this week, when having messages deleted by MNHQ will lead to a direct ban, apparently, if you have three of them, they are no longer searchable and countable.

So not only can we not see how many posts we ourselves have had deleted, and how many fucking stupid strikes we are on, we also can't count the zillions of posts from goady newbies other people that have been deleted.

For example, one particularly prolific anti-women poster had four posts deleted on one thread but was still going strong. I'm sure s/he had many deleted on other threads, but it's hard to find exact numbers.

Gee wizz, you don't suppose they did it so they could surprise us with the ban hammer, do you?

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 02:20

I dunno. I don't want to make assumptions.

There must surely be a reason.

But sadly only you and I care. At least I care and you are being nice about it Grin.. I'm off to bed, maybe there will be a clear, useful and honest explanation in the morning.

Or possibly not. But hey-ho, who fucking cares anyway

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2018 02:32

I'm fairly sure I've seen regular posters with more than 3 deletions still posting which implies the '3 strikes' rule isn't actually automatic- maybe it triggers them to take a closer look at that post pand poster before deciding, at which point they notify by mail ? Which would be a good thing, to stop mistakes. (Yes, I got deleted once years ago for 'misgendering' ... the 'he' I referred to was Donald Trump, mistakes happen). Could even be that not being able to search for deletion messages is deliberate to stop TRAs (ab)using it.

Tartyflette · 26/06/2018 13:19

I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like to see a response on this from MNHQ. So what gives?

MnerXX · 26/06/2018 13:29

Bump

HelenaDove · 26/06/2018 18:28

Another bump..................especially in light of last nights events.

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 18:36

No answer?

I wondered that too, Errol - it's not a definitive 3 strikes and out - particularly for the trolls, I saw one still posting 24 hours after having at least half a dozen posts that I saw deleted. I just don't understand why they would go to so much trouble to stop us checking up on ourselves. I mean, surely if I can AS me and realise that I have two deletions in day, that's a good thing?

It'll give me a fright and teach me to stop being an outspoken woman, and put me nicely back in my box where I can reflect on my behaviour and make sure not to upset anyone ever again.

OP posts:
palmtreebanana · 26/06/2018 18:36

It’s been like that for some months

Maryzsnewaccount · 26/06/2018 18:46

I think you are right palmtree that it hasn't been working normally for a while (I'd love to know why) - in that not all deleted messages appear.

AS brings up a few from June, but they seem to be ones where the whole thread has gone.

There are definitely many from May - so up until a month ago it was possible to see who had had posts deleted and how many. No longer, it seems.

Creepy? Invested?

To check whether someone who is insulting lots of people on one thread has a habit of doing it across lots of threads?

Or wanting to know whether any of my posts have been deleted?

Or giving someone the benefit of the doubt if they are being a bit of a dick, but then deciding to report if they are consistently doing it everywhere?

Weird.

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 26/06/2018 19:00

Yeah its really creepy to want to look up the history of a person posting in a suspicious or misogynistic way.

Like all those creepy women using Clares Law to look up the history of someone. Hmm

What ARE they like!!!!!

Except if you're wondering if the rules are being applied fairly massively. And then it becomes quite enlightening
