"The chat nickname you requested is already in use" ... but it's in use by ME so that shouldn't be a problem!

The facility to switch back to previous names was broken a few months ago, and then it was fixed, and now it's broken again.

Can it be fixed again please?

Did you de-register and then re-register with a new account?

I don't have any problems switching between NNs.

Thanks @EstherMumsnet. I've done that now, but I think the person who picked up the report at MNHQ misunderstood the problem because they replied "we will need you to change your username to [the one I can't change it to] in order to change it on the thread."

To be clear, I'm not able to change my username to the name that I specified, even though it is one I have used in the past, because I get the error message "The chat nickname you requested is already in use".

There are lots of people these days with usernames that are very similar to but definitely not the same as the original poster. This may not be the right thread to ask so sorry OP but it makes me wonder a hit. Have you ever looked into this MN?
