Changed username for another thread now can’t use the old one?

Anyone else have this issue? ‘Old’ (used just this week) username had no numbers in it. Apparently I can no longer use it according to the message on the screen. Needed to change as I posted a lot on usual username and didn’t want the two connected...

Have you tried just typing it into the box where your username appears above the message box, iyswim?

I think you can use anything to comment on a thread (using the box above the comment box) so long as you've already registered it, but you can start a thread in your logged-in name only.

Is it not permitting in-thread changes, or is it not letting you change in your account settings?

What happens when you type the name you want in the user name box and then save it?

You don't need to have numbers in your name

Desktop site, mobile site or app?

On the website there's a box above the text box you type your post in, where you can put in a previous name change. In this example it's greyed out my logged in username but I could choose to overwrite with something else.

I'm reluctant to try it in case I lose my name but user names definitely don't have to have numbers in, what device are you using?

Ok. Mrs Hathaway has cracked it. Yes I know what to do now. Thank you everyone. I thought you could only do this from account settings...

As you can see I had to add 123 to a name I used before for the same issue...
