Search topic idea

I would really like to be able to search rather more easily within a particular topic, for instance, going to Gardening, there could be a 'Search in this topic' box by the 'start a new thread in this topic' link.

Anyone else think this would help.

Thanks for the suggestion! It sounds like it'd be a useful way to search and so we'll keep an eye on this thread and see what the response is like.

Me! It’s a great idea.

You could always use Advanced Search though.

For example, I input 'knotweed' as a key word, selected 'Search and display thread titles only' and then selected Gardening as the only topic in which I wanted to see threads about Japanese knotweed and it came up with this lot www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?mustmatch=knotweed&dontmatch=&nickname=&src_displ_option=s_t_d_t&fromDate=&toDate=&topicmode=chs&chosentops=2200

You could always use Advanced Search though.

I can’t get the “choose topics” thing to work in advanced search on my iPad.

Ah, sorry. AS works OK for me on the laptop - but, TBH, I don't think I've tried it on my iPad.

I do use Advanced Search, of course I do. It's crap wrt the Choose Topics option goes. Yes, it's better on the laptop, but on the iPad it's truly ghastly! Sadly, I have to use my iPad most of the time.

Even if AS worked well though, what I would like to do is the above. A few days ago I wanted to see what threads there were about a particular event which was fairly current. I went to the most likely topic and looked through the titles; nothing immediately told me that the thing I was looking for the subject of the thread - clever titles etc.

To AS, I would have had to go to AS, then filled in keywords, then gone through the nightmare which chooses the topic and then finally clicked search.

I just thought, "I'm already in the topic I want to search, so it would be nice to just fill in a few keywords, click search et voila!, rather than going through all that ^^".

Even if AS worked well on the iPad, I still think this would be a good idea.

(PS, Lorna, in AS on iPad, could we at least have some kind of drop down menu so we don't have to scroll through aaallllllllll - every single one - those Local options.....?)
