Do mumsnet control the ads? Repeal the 8th ad

Do mumsnet control the ads, I'm very disappointed to see an ad encouraging a no vote today, I don't think this is very helpful to the women of Ireland who use the site. I would have thought mumsnet was pro choice for womens safety alone.

I have an adblocker on most devices, but the ads I get on my phone are related to my own browsing history a lot of the time.

I am Irish and have obviously read items on the referendum but those would be on news sites. I havent Googled it specifically and certainly haven't looked at the no campaign.

I believe they can block certain ads or categories of ads but they don't hand pick every ad.

Hi WeShouldOpenABar,

We really appreciate your drawing our attention to this. We can block ads if we need to.

Can you send us the url of the page you saw it on and then we can get it blocked.

AngieMumsnet · 25/05/2018 12:10

Hi,

Yes we do have control over ads, BUT due to the automated nature of advertising these days there are instances where advertisers can override these blocks by miscategorizing their ads, for example, if these NO vote advertisers were to honestly categorise themselves as related to abortion then they would be blocked but they are categorising themselves under the health and wellbeing flag which is why they show up, we, of course, shut them down as soon as we get complaints from you guys, so thanks for continuing to take the time to highlight these issues when they come up - just so you know, whilst a screenshot is helpful it does take time to try and find the ad in our systems, but if you can send through the www address after clicking on an ad then we can block it immediately.
Thanks

Just to add we did find most of these ads last night but if they continue to show up please do let us know.

Thanks I'll send through when I get ad again
