Anyway to automatically hide threads with certain keywords in title

TinyPawz · 15/05/2018 16:48

That's it basically. I feel like I am spending most of my time on mn at the minute hiding royal wedding threads. A few weeks ago it was Alfie Evans?

Is this even possible? Sure I am not the only one who would love this feature.

A "mute keywords" function would be spiffing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/05/2018 18:44

If the thing you want to avoid is in the title, surely you just scroll past? It isn’t that onerous.

GummyGoddess · 15/05/2018 18:46

That would be fantastic, I could unhide the feminist board if I could just mute certain topics.

Re scrolling past: some of the thread titles really piss me off, so it's better to hide entire boards than stress myself out for no reason.

TinyPawz · 15/05/2018 18:49

Scrolling isn't too onerous no but when there appears to be 20%of active threads related to topics I dislike it is a lot of hiding

More achievable would be for MNHQ to move all Royal Wedding threads in to the topic

After all, it was created specifically to make it easy to hide, for those who don't want to see them, and easy to find for this who do.

Any chance?

But then all the threads re: her dad/family would still clog up the boards. And that is only solving the current issue. I foresee times in the future that hiding keywords would be helpful. New baby etc

AuntieStella · 16/05/2018 07:04

But if in one topic - a topic which IIRC was created with exactly this purpose in mind - people could hide it (permanently or for peak weeks). So your Active would be free of nearly all such threads, but those who wanted to discuss it, whether in negative or positive terms, would have full scope so to do.

Any chance of a bit of thread moving, MNHQ?

After all, you've done it enough times in the past

TinyPawz · 16/05/2018 07:18

That is only solving the immediate issue and I suspect after next week (please Jesus) it will die down. Moving current threads and creating new topic only work if everyone puts new threads in correct topic. 🤯

OP posts:
EdithWeston · 16/05/2018 08:03

If MNHQ move them, then the traffic follows, IYSWIM.

It's a well-precedented and MNetty way of doing things. It works very well if MNHQ is so minded.

AuntieStella · 16/05/2018 19:12

There really are rather a lot of Royal reads ATM. Encouraging the use of the topic (by moving at least some threads) would be welcomed by me.

TinyPawz · 17/05/2018 19:28

MNHQ any update? It's reaching fever pitch

OP posts:
SneakyGremlins · 17/05/2018 19:29

I'm so fucking BORED OF THE DAMN WEDDING.

TinyPawz · 18/05/2018 00:23

@SneakyGremlins and then there will be the pregnancy and baby /babies. This is only the current issue.

OP posts:
QueenEdith · 18/05/2018 07:07

Any chance of a response, MNHQ?

Because this is something that needs to be decided today, really. Not afterwards when it all dies away after the weekend.

It would also give some idea of your current thinking on the topics, and whether 'peak' traffic should be diverted there. We all know you used to do that (irrespective of OP's wishes) for big peaks, and if there has been yet another change in policy, it would be nice if you would tell us.

QueenEdith · 19/05/2018 07:11

Well, I think we can take it that the answer is 'no'

Pity that we were left to work that out as likeliest response from silence, rather than someone finding time actually to tell us.

TinyPawz · 19/05/2018 13:05

I would still like a response to be honest. The RW is only the current issue there will be more.

OP posts:
FlissMumsnet · 19/05/2018 20:46

We're not ignoring you all - we've just been soooo busy untangling our bunting and waving our damn flags.

It's a fair point as know many people have reached peak wedding this weekend. We'll definitely pass this suggestion to the bosses and let you know when we've an answer on this one. No promises but we will try our best.

In the meantime Gin is the answer.

Whatever the question.

EdithWeston · 21/05/2018 07:54

There's no point in answering now, is there?

This needed to be in place last week.

I know that sounds grumpy, but this was not answered in the timeframe necessary for it to make a jot of difference. And I think that actually does give the answer.

TinyPawz · 21/05/2018 10:09

I still think it is worth pursuing. The RW was just one example of what it could be used for.

OP posts:
GerdaLovesLili · 21/05/2018 13:14

Indeed, just because the RW has been and gone doesn't mean we shouldn't have the option to mute the endless parking, MIL, Suncream, flip flops, etc, threads. If MNHQ can't or won't corral threads into existing sub-areas so they can be ignored then a "mute keywords" function would end the endless and tiresome kvetching.
