When posters have their posting history deleted ...

... please could you just delete their posting name, rather than their post?

Unless the content of their post specifically identifies them, is there any reason to delete their post? I was reading a thread recently where one of the contributors had obviously posted a lot - but having had their entire posting history removed, the thread was difficult to make sense of, as so many posts were deleted.

Surely just deleting the poster name would be sufficient?

Sometimes posters have their username changed retrospectively but I think is rare. The option to have some or all posts removed at posters request should remain.

TLDR: BIWI I am often in agreement with you but not on this one.

Part of the prob is subsequent posts sometimes ref to the original username and canny reading can reveal the original iyswim. Mangled language there, sorry.

Hi BIWI,

You do make an interesting point. I'll pass your idea back to the team.

I appreciate it may be too difficult - especially if deletions are an automated process.

But given that MNHQ use the argument for deleting whole threads when too many individual posts are deleted - because it makes it like 'Swiss cheese' then it seems to me this is a similar thing?

If deleting a posters' posts wholesale makes other threads difficult to follow, then I don't see why you shouldn't let them stay. Being realistic, there aren't many posts that people make that will be that identifying.

@FlibbertyGiblets you don't have to agree with me! of course you do
