Please can we have a "number of posts" counter?

And date joined.

Neither needs to be that specific - nearest hundred, "this week"/"this month"/"month and year".

Just as a way of distinguishing long standing posters from trolls who've joined to goad (or even post deliberately inflammatory stuff to get screenshots).

I have seen it suggested before. I think it’s a good idea.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/05/2018 21:50

I’m not keen. I love how simple and sparse the info is on the mobile site. Don’t really want loads of additional info clogging up the page

Plus you can spot trolls a mile off

YimminiYoudar · 02/05/2018 21:59

Maybe if it just showed something like the centiles for number of posts and the duration of history - even rounded to nearest hundred some posters would be too easily identifiable through a name change.

elQuintoConyo · 02/05/2018 22:04

I'd be totally embarassed if it stated'posts this month', however it may shame me into getting off MN, getting dressed and going outside BlushGrin

FermatsTheorem · 02/05/2018 22:38

There is that, Quint Blush

I was thinking of something vague enough that you couldn't use it to track name changes (which I think is a useful feature - I've used it in the past to post about medical stuff to do with DC that I don't want connected with the rest of my posting history).

No, not keen.

If you want to know someone's posting background, you can AS them.

Being a long standing MNetter is no guarantee that the person is neither troll nor arse. Chances are, whether prolific or not, they're just a person with a view.

IWantMyHatBack · 02/05/2018 22:43

I was quite against this idea to start with. I don't think number of posts is that relevant, and should be avoided (or you risk getting back into the mumsnet royalty bullshit), but I now like the idea of an indicator of longevity on posts.

It's only certain boards, tbh.

ThenCameTheFools · 02/05/2018 22:46

Such a thing would show I started posting yesterday, and HQ's info is that I joined last autumn.
The reality is, I namechanged yesterday, have been on MN since 2004 but regularly dereg and start again from a different email.
And the worst trolls I've seen since 2004 were rarely people who had just signed up.
People should perhaps hone their trolldar a bit instead of jumping down the throat of 'trollhunters'.

Cacaonib · 02/05/2018 23:50

I was also going to suggest this.
Sick of trollhunters

paxillin · 03/05/2018 13:08

Some trolls are proper slow burners though, it would only get the most amateurish ones.

It would get rid of the poo troll, but plimsoll troll appears to have found a new hobby, so there's hope so will he.

PotTheRed · 03/05/2018 13:12

I don’t think this would be useful. Long serving MNers can also troll.

MrsHathaway · 03/05/2018 13:47

If you want to know someone's posting background, you can AS them.

Unless they mainly post in _Chat, 30 Days, etc, so their posts quietly disappear.

I'd be happy if clicking on a username took you to a page that said "this nickname first used in March 2017" and I could accept its additionally saying "user registered in 2012" but I don't think it should be more specific than that.

EstherMumsnet · 04/05/2018 20:38

Thanks for the suggestion. We don't like troll hunting on Mumsnet and we know that some people post only occasionally whereas some spend their entire day on Mumsnet (not looking at anyone in particular here!) so we'd prefer it if you just reported any posts you think are dodgy and we can look into their posting history.
