Possible Webchat with Perfumer Sarah McCartney

We've been wondering on the Perfumista thread in S&B if there might be a possibility of getting indie perfumer Sarah McCartney in for a
webchat?

Sarah is a self-taught, but critically acclaimed Nose, who founded the
Perfumery, 4160Tuesdays, following a mid-life career change. She makes perfumes by hand in London, and has an international fanbase. Her perfumes are quirky, and include literary and historically-inspired scents from collaborative arts projects. She also runs perfume making workshops.

Imagine we could have a great conversation about choosing, wearing and making perfume, and on the experiences of founding a small business in this industry?

Might we be able to do this please MNHQ?

I'm in. It would be interesting hearing from someone in the industry.

UnnecessaryFennel · 22/04/2018 10:13

Yep, thumbs-up from me too. I think she would be very interesting on the subject of starting your own business, even for those of us not obsessed with perfume Grin

Calmwhoknows · 22/04/2018 10:45

Oh yes, that would be fascinating. Let’s do it! What would Sarah McCartney’s advice be on how to choose a perfume? It’s so confusing with all the different perfumes and brands being promoted.

auberginesrus · 22/04/2018 11:42

This is a very exciting prospect - I know Sarah does her own marketing and PR too so would be really good from the point of view of anyone trying to promote a small business. I would like to ask Sarah what perfumes (other than her own) she loves and what inspired her to get started. And questions about the sense of smell and why she thinks different ingredients smell different to different people, and in different skins.

Another vote to ask Sarah M for a webchat. I'd be interested in the impact of her synesthesia (smells have sounds for her) on her fragrance design. Also, she is such a great educator so it would be great to have a discussion about making perfume accessible.

OCSockOrphanage · 22/04/2018 13:37

Yes, definitely up for asking MNHQ to do this.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 22/04/2018 13:38

another vote YES!!!!

pestilentialboundary · 22/04/2018 15:07

Totally up for it.

Did a workshop last year, got to sniff lots of perfume ingredients. Then was given what appeared to be free rein to create my own masterpiece. It is totally wearable and actually rather nice. I think I was subtly educated and guided, whilst under the impression that I was just having fun.

Sarah is very knowledgeable and a great communicator. In addition to her own range she has sniffed almost everything and should be extremely useful for people seeking a change of perfume.
