The Mumsnet mobile site keeps draining my iPhone battery. Help would be appreciated.

For about three weeks now, I have been perplexed as to why my battery keeps draining so much suddenly.

I have gone through my apps and turned off mobile data for most and background updates.

I have narrowed it down to just being in the Mumsnet site using Safari. I literally watch my battery percentage count down when I am on this site. It never used to!

I am using IOS 11.3 version.

I have also attached photos of my phone going down 20% in 15 minutes.

Can anyone help?

Don’t know the answer but I’m having the same issue!

I wonder if it’s linked to certain ads - although I have an adblocker some are still showing.

Twickerhun · 19/04/2018 20:08

Interesting as I have the same problem. I thought it was my phone

Disquieted1 · 02/09/2018 17:05

Any answers?

AnyaMumsnet · 03/09/2018 13:07

Hi there @Disquieted1,

We can see this thread was started in April - have you been having the same problem recently?

Disquieted1 · 07/09/2018 23:23

Yes. I have a Sony Xperia. Battery lasts maybe an hour on MN but a couple of days of general use.

Disquieted1 · 08/09/2018 00:38

If this helps I timed it tonight. 57 minutes from full charge to switch off.
No problems with any other site. MN is becoming unusable.

moredoll · 08/09/2018 00:44

also munches my mobile data like nothing else.

ChishandFips33 · 08/09/2018 01:17

Ditto here

Imsorrylhaventaclue · 08/09/2018 08:57

I’ve noticed this too - an hour of browsing knocks out half my battery life.

TheCrowFromBelow · 08/09/2018 08:58

Yep 42% battery gone in less than an hour.

Twotabbycats · 12/09/2018 23:23

Pretty sure it will be the ads on the mobile site munching your data moredoll - I use the app when out and about and it doesn't get through so much data.

AnyaMumsnet · 13/09/2018 11:14

Hi there everyone,

Thanks for letting us know, we've flagged it to our tech team.

TimMumsnet · 13/09/2018 11:26

Hi guys, thanks for raising this.

As a general rule, using a website use will always drain more battery than using an app with the same content. This is because much more data has to be loaded every time you load a page on a website, compared to an app.

This is one reason we created the Talk iOS app and the Talk Android app.

*The Android app has some issues we're currently aware of and still working on, it also has less features than the iOS Talk app.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/04/2019 21:24

Just bumping this as it’s happening to me again - MN use totally ruining my battery

Anyone else got this issue?

Disquieted1 · 04/05/2019 00:14

Re-bump. New phone, new battery, MN still burns through it.

All I have running is Mcafee in the background, Chrome and MN. This does not happen on any other site.
I moaned above that MN is becoming unusable and it's not getting any better. Why does it take so long for a simple hyperlink to activate? Why has it taken me 5 minutes to compile this message?

Dermymc · 04/05/2019 07:55

It's the adverts. Each thread has a banner, then at least 2 when scrolling and finally one at the bottom. MN is becoming un readable all for the sake of a few quid.

FlissMumsnet · 04/05/2019 17:29

Hi Disquieted, ShirleyPhallus and Dermymc,

We're really sorry you've finding this such a pita - we'd like to help make things run more smoothly for you so we're taking another look at this for you all now.

In the meantime - here's some Cake

Cautionsharpblade · 25/10/2019 08:42

This has started happening to me in the last couple of weeks using Mumsnet mobile site in the google browser (iPhone). I’ve watched the battery drain 23% in 6 minutes. When I’m not on this site, battery life is fine.
