Threads that are deleted after 10 days section?

In view of some of the sensitve threads tht appear on mumsnet, how would people feel about adding them to a section where they are deleted after a very short while?

Reading some of this week's 'in the news threads' has made me suggest this.

People could choose to start threads in the quick delete section and mumsnet HQ could also have the right to move threads to the quick delete section if they were likely to cause grief to other parents who are in the news and might log onto mumsnet in the future.

Just a suggestion.

fannyannie · 10/05/2007 20:51

very good idea. Not just for sensitive "in the news" threads - but also other issues which people want to talk about (personal things) or get advice on - but don't want hanging around the boards for ever.

EllieKthePA · 10/05/2007 20:52

Yes - but I thnk it would need watching. I think that it could get used for things which people post just to be 'norty', posting scurrilous and near-libellous stuff etc, knowing that it would have a short shelf life, and it could all get very very tedious. But maybe they should just be deleted straight away as misusing the purpose of the facility!

Mhamai · 11/05/2007 16:25

Good idea.

SimplySparkling · 11/05/2007 16:31

I've thought that this would be useful many a time.

Apatosaurus · 11/05/2007 16:31

Bink · 11/05/2007 16:34

Yes very good idea.
I like "Quick Delete" as the category name too.

tigermoth · 11/05/2007 23:21

blu, I do know what you mean - there is the possiblity of misuse if people think the threads will be deleted quickly anyway. Mind you, you could say that about chat threads to some extent, as they have a shorter shelf life than the rest of the threads.

Also up for debate is how long a lifespan you'd give to a quick delete topic. I suggested an automatic 10 days, but it could be more or it could be less.

I suppose the sort of poster who was OTT on a quick delete thread would quickly gather red exclamation mark 'report this poster' messages from other mumsnetters, so mumsnet towers would be alerted quickly and could then choose to delete a message as per usual.
