Night Mode

Apologies if this has been asked before but would @MNHQ ever consider set dong a 'night mode'? A bit like on Reddit where the colours are inverted and the background is darker. I often MN v late at night whilst bfing DS and have to turn my screen brightness down very low and a night mode would really help this.

Hi GimbleInTheWabe,

I'm sure this has been raised before but I'm less sure of the answer. (Honestly, they shouldn't let me loose on Site Stuff) Wink

I'm off to ask our Tech team. Will be back shortly...

In the meantime, can you let us know if you're using the app or the mobile site?

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/03/2018 09:59

Have a delve into your device settings, maybe under 'accessibility'. You might find Night Mode or Reverse/Invert colours there.

DawnMumsnet · 09/03/2018 14:26

Back again.

I've now spoken to our Tech team and it looks as though we don't have any immediate plans for a night mode, but it could well be on the agenda for the future.

For now, please follow Flibberty's advice above. Thanks, Flibberty. Smile

I might be wrong, but I have a vague recollection of a 'night mode' on MN many many years ago. I didn't need it, but I do recall a few conversations about it.

But I suspect that it was eliminated during an upgrade some years ago now?

Sorry for tardy reply, hopefully the words 'teething baby' suffice for an excuse.

Thanks for getting back to me @DawnMumsnet. It may not be very useful now but I use the mobile app. Good to know that it might be considered in the future.

Thanks for the tips @FlibbertyGiblets, I've tried invert colours for 3am bfing/MNing but it's just as bright really. I use the apple night mode and under the accessibility you can reduce the white point, which is what I normally do and that definitely helps. But of course if there was a little toggle here on the app that would minimise the faff of having to change the settings all the time. But hey, it's a very first world problem I know.

I'm still a relevant I've newbie to MN @PanPanPanPing, I only joined about a year and a half ago and haven't seen a night mode in my time. Maybe if it was an option it wasn't well received and that's why it was removed?

I'm going back years ago, Gimble, when the layout and whatnot was simpler in some ways, but there were also various options that existed then but don't exist now - although I do recall that there might have been a night mode then.

But every time the techs did upgrades some things disappeared! Maybe one of the longer standing techs might remember?
