Well, not quite. They are paxilllin (three L) and I am paxillin (two L). I get confused enough as it is without seeing myself double. Are there any rules about that?

Will report the triple-L post, thanks.

Good to know. I imagine it usually happens by accident. Lots of people like Eastenders and pick a username from there for instance.

I doubt triple L paxillin was accidental though. How many people are really interested in focal adhesion proteins and can't spell them?

There are some weird people about. I used to post on a particular dog breed rescue forum as we had a dog from the organisation. They had a weekly chat room and someone logged in with a very similar name to me posting vile stuff whilst dropping in snippets of information I'd put on the forum to make people think it was me. I name change all the time for that reason.

JosieSand · 07/02/2018 23:24

I think it's deliberate sometimes.

Littlechocola · 07/02/2018 23:27

I was once one of many cheese names. Others were cheeses but one was very very similar. I went off cheese.

paxillin · 08/02/2018 00:01

There is more than one dragon, too. Honeydragon and Soupdragon for instance a little more different from each other than paxillin and paxilllin though.

Yes there was a period of shit stirring a couple of years ago by people stealing regulars’ usernames.

Littlechocola · 08/02/2018 08:07

I meant really similar like adding a letter. Cheesesarnie/ cheessesarnie. So it wouldn’t show as username taken when they registered but would be confusing.
Lots of similar ones (as you say dragons, cheeses etc).

picklemepopcorn · 08/02/2018 08:22

Someone on here has a user name which is the same as my very unusual RL name. It gives me heebiegeebies to see people talking to her.

picklemepopcorn · 08/02/2018 08:23

I'm not called honeydragon, just in case you are wondering...

CapnHaddock · 08/02/2018 08:23

I have no doubt it's deliberate in this case - do report

Hallo Pax,

Sorry for the delay!

We did have a spate at one point - we've not had this problem for a while though. It doesn't look the poster will be back, but we've zapped the post now and if you've any other problems at all, please do let us know Flowers

PanPanPanPing · 08/02/2018 10:45

Have you banned the 'fake pax' Sophie?

SophieLMumsnet · 08/02/2018 10:49

They actually de-registered before we could hit the ban button, PanPanPanPing

PhilODox · 08/02/2018 10:53

That must be very weird, pickle!
(Hope it's not me!)

PanPanPanPing · 08/02/2018 10:56

Oh - definitely deliberate on their part then Hmm

scurryfunge · 08/02/2018 10:57

It's a bit annoying isn't it. I thought my username was unique but someone's nabbed it now!

PhilODox · 08/02/2018 11:02

What do you mean, scurry? With a spurious spelling?

Btw, I use your name all the time... at home, in rl, when we're having a bit of a quick blitz before MIL arrives Grin

scurryfunge · 08/02/2018 11:03

There's just another word in front of it so I can't really complain.

paxillin · 08/02/2018 12:03

Thank you, @SophieLMumsnet.
