Anyone else getting this, where they tried to put adverts sometime ago except I have Adblocker installed?

Yes i am too but strangely only on chat it doesnt do it anywhere else. I have Adblocker installed too

mathanxiety · 13/01/2018 07:43

Me too. Annoying.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 13/01/2018 10:49

Same here, it's actually making me feel a bit queasy!

RoseAndRose · 13/01/2018 11:18

Maybe it's a cunning plan to get people to stop posting in chat, and to load everything into AIBU

LightastheBreeze · 14/01/2018 08:24

I have this, I’m sure it is the Adblocker maybe stopping the ads or something like that, only notice it on my iPad

LightastheBreeze · 14/01/2018 09:52

I disabled the ad blocker on my iMac and the thing whirled a bit then loaded the ad so I am sure it is the adblocker but its only in Chat

Becca19962014 · 14/01/2018 18:50

It's because they've changed the ads in chat they now remain at the top of the screen over the text e.g. If you've scrolled down then there's an empty space with a turner if the ad won't load/you have adblocker.

I don't have adblocker but have found it difficult to read anything quickly on that board or others where I've found it happening (though apparently it shouldn't happen elsewhere) as increasing the size of the text means the text disappears behind a massive ad, with adblocker it's blank with the circle.

Becca19962014 · 14/01/2018 18:51

I hope that makes sense!

LornaMumsnet · 15/01/2018 09:14

Apologies for not jumping over to this thread sooner! We're really sorry for any hassle the spinny wheel is causing. Can we ask what browser/devices everyone's using? Can we also ask for a rough estimate of the time it takes for the spinny thing to stop and the advert to load in its place?

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 09:16

Adblocker, it doesn't stop. Grin

iPad, safari, everything up to date.

NotAPuffin · 15/01/2018 09:52

I have it on my laptop, with Chrome and an adblocker.

Becca19962014 · 15/01/2018 10:03

In my case it only happens with ads my device cannot load as I can't have an adblocker (device too old). I am using safari.

Becca19962014 · 15/01/2018 10:05

Also lorna I've contacted about a specific issue I'm having via email (hopefully that doesn't confuse matters) I posted here to try and explain to others what was happening - that all they'll get is the spinning circle with adblockers.

JustineMumsnet · 15/01/2018 16:36

Hi all,
This is as a result of a new format we're testing on desktop (at the moment it's only on chat). It's a fixed leaderboard, which is the rectangular ad at the top of the page which stays in place as you scroll down. We currently have these in place on the mobile site, but not on desktop. The endless spinning is, it seems, a consequence of adblockers - it will spin until the ad loads, which if you have adblockers it never will. Presumably this happens under normal circs with adblockers but is less noticeable because mostiy people are scrolling?

Becca19962014 · 15/01/2018 16:54

It also happens with ads that a device cannot load (example in my case those with moving images).

TrojanWhore · 15/01/2018 18:44

Fixed ads of the sort you describe aren't nice.

Seeing ads around the site is one thing. Having them fixed smacks of desperation

Becca19962014 · 15/01/2018 18:51

Mine isn't a fixed size, it jumps in size. I'm finding when I resize the screen to read threads due to eyesight problems the ad, if one of the larger ones, is expanding and not the text making it very difficult to read things.

mathanxiety · 15/01/2018 19:00

No, it is incredibly noticeable all the time, scrolling, reading, posting. This doesn't happen with other sites I am on where my adblocker is also active.

I am avoiding Chat right now because it's so incredibly noticeable.

I don't want a fixed ad that effectively reduces my page size either.

(Windows, Firefox)

OvO · 15/01/2018 19:16

I HATE those stupid ads that follow you down the page as you scroll.

While I won't stop using MN because of them (only because I've already been sucked in) if I do go to a new website and find them I just click back and never use that site again. That's how annoying it is.

So pretty off-putting for new members.

WaggyMama · 18/01/2018 15:33

I'm on a laptop using Chrome and Adblocker.

I can remove Adblocker but am then subjected to this. I don't want to look at someones arse.

Bumping any further update on this?

littlbrowndog · 23/01/2018 21:43

Any update on the swirly ad in chat ?

TrojanWhore · 27/01/2018 15:28

Ok, an answer at the weekend is a long shot.

But could you let us know on Monday when it is that you will be able to update us?

OtterInDisgrace · 28/01/2018 13:17

iPad, safari, adblocker and no it doesn’t stop, it follows you as you scroll so you can’t get away from it.

LornaMumsnet · 29/01/2018 09:30

Hi all,

We're still testing this one so no news yet but thanks so much for your patience - we'll be along when we have an update. Flowers
