How can I change my username colour?

MujosMama · 02/01/2018 22:42

When I first joined mumsnet I set my username to be jazzy orange. I didn't realise how uncommon that was and it annoys me now that it is so obvious when I post. How can I change it back to the normal purple?

Selecting colour scheme in the app only changes the main background, not my username highlight. I can't find any colour settings in the settings page when I open it in my browser.

I'm using an iPhone if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

I don't know what it's like on the App or on an iPhone, but on the desktop site you have to go into Preferences www.mumsnet.com/Talk?call=Preferences and you can change your own (and OPs of other threads) highlight colours.

Unfortunately there's only a choice of six, not very exciting, colours! I remember that rather jazzy orange colour - but it was a glitch which only lasted a rather short period of time, although you still have it?

"Selecting colour scheme in the app only changes the main background, not my username highlight." But do you mean you just want your NN to be a different colour - and not have your posts highlighted with a different colour? You can't change the colour of your NN itself, just your posts.

Thanks, Pan! Flowers

OP, if there's anything else, please don't hesitate to give us a shout.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately when I go to that site, either on my phone or on my laptop, the only options I get are which order messages appear in, how many messages per page, and my watching/notification preferences. I can't see any colour scheme options at all.

Am I looking in the wrong place??

Sorry for the comment on the colour scheme being unclear, I just mean that the colour scheme option in the app changes the main page view. I know I can't change the white writing on my username :)

I've attached a couple of pics and a picture of the options I see on the customisation page to show better!

Oh, I see that things are quite different on the App to the desktop site. So I'm afraid I can't help. In that case I think you'll have to give a shout out to MNHQ again!

MujosMama · 05/01/2018 10:36

Thank you anyway for your help! It's much appreciated :)

The 3rd photo is the desktop site accessed from my laptop, if that's any help?

But now I'm properly awake (Blush Grin), I see that the pages with the different colour blobs does give you the option to change the colour of your posts - I think? I'm possibly getting rather confused here!!

PanPanPanPing · 05/01/2018 11:07

"The 3rd photo is the desktop site accessed from my laptop, if that's any help?".

How odd - this is a screenshot of the Preferences page on the desktop site on my laptop - there are far more options on mine than on yours.

Now I am mighty Confused, so think some help for you from MNHQ is definitely needed now!

Ooh that screenshot is EXACTLY what I need - the "highlight own posts" option is the field I want to change, so I just need to get to that same page!

Do you mind me asking what browser you're using? I see the same options in Safari and Firefox but am open to trying others!

Safari - although I know my browser isn't the most up-to-date. (On a MacBook Pro, if that makes any difference?!).

Hi there OP,

So sorry to bring some not-so-good news to the thread and huge shoutout to @PanPanPanPing for trying to get to the bottom of this.

We've spoken with our tech team and sadly, the colour-changing feature is only available to older accounts, so it's not something that everyone has access to, which explains the issues you've been having.

We're so sorry about this and if there's anything else we can do, please let us know.

Thank you so much @LornaMumsnet for checking! At least I have an answer and can stop driving myself crazy about it

And thank you @PanPanPanPing for all your help!
