Auto-delete any posts that only have a .

A lot of posters just add a . so they can placemark a thread. Nothing else, just a .

There is already bookmarking and watching functionality so these posts are pointless and add nothing to the discussion. Is there a way to just auto-delete any post which only has a . in it?

Many sites set a minimum character limit - Mn is very behind the times though...

Aridane · 03/12/2017 20:40

But then posters would just post some other crap, surely?

MongerTruffle · 03/12/2017 20:41

I sometimes just post a . so I can attach a picture.

AfunaMbatata · 03/12/2017 20:42

My watching and bookmarked threads function hasn’t worked for a good year Angry

paxillin · 04/12/2017 08:08

You don't get deletion messages if watching I think. If you'd ban the dot, people would "placemark" or "park a chair" or "don't mind me".

DonkeyOaty · 04/12/2017 08:29

.

paxillin · 04/12/2017 08:47

I did expect this thread to be filled with ".".

DonkeyOaty · 04/12/2017 08:50

Grin Pax. Happy to oblige.

MsHomeSlice · 04/12/2017 08:51

I just use it as a guide to the type of person the "dot leaver" really is.

....especially on a more sensitive thread when often they are called on it and come back with a flimflam excuse

How hard is it to make some sort of relevant comment if you really want to place mark?

paxillin · 04/12/2017 08:54

I knew you wouldn't disappoint.

DonkeyOaty · 04/12/2017 08:54

Mwah.

LesDennishair · 04/12/2017 09:30

I think 'F' is worse. Can we have that deleted too? Grin

LornaMumsnet · 04/12/2017 11:45

Hello,

Thanks for raising this, interesting to get your thoughts on this and we will certainly take these into consideration at HQ.

For those of you who have said that your bookmarking function isn't working, would you mind posting more info here about your browser/device (or mailing into CU) so that we can try and get this sorted for you?

Why would you care about this OP?

paxillin · 04/12/2017 11:50

Your are saying "those of you who have said that your bookmarking function...". Does that mean "Watch this thread" now gets a deletion message, @LornaMumsnet? I thought you don't, which is why people placemark.

paxillin · 04/12/2017 12:00

Oh dear Grin, that's your chance at mnetter of the week gone.

blue2014 · 04/12/2017 12:45

I genuinely don't understand why this is a problem, I don't do it but why do you care (not being goody, genuinely don't get it)

Please don't do minimum characters - I hate websites that do that

paxillin · 04/12/2017 12:55

Minimum characters would mean I'd say what I wanted to.

And then fill it with bladeeblaa or doodeedoo or aaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa.

WaitrosePigeon · 04/12/2017 14:44

Most people do know about the bookmark thing. They do it because the want to see the deletion message if the thread goes tits up.

Escapepeas · 04/12/2017 19:32

It was just something I was pondering after seeing fast-moving threads get filled up with people using a full stop to place mark. I did half expect to come back and see this thread full of . too though! Grin
