Why is Goady Fuckery still so prevalent on MumsNet

Anyone that has been here a while knows the —rules— guidelines. It seems that posters can still blatantly start TAATs and post goady shite and get away with it.

What’s the point of having guidelines if certain posters can disregard them anyway?

OP posts:

Fenella, I will very predictably be accused of socking but I've never found pandora goady. The thread deleted yesterday had post after post of people sticking the boot in and taking the piss but all I saw was pandora ask why people troll hunt so much.
The question didn't really justify the frothing response it got really.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/11/2017 19:30

No it really didn't. 77 out of 383 posts were from Pandora, mostly one liners which boiled down to "didn't, nyer". Yes there were one liners from other posters but not from me and I didn't get a straight answer to my question.

User843022 · 11/11/2017 19:35

'No it really didn't. '
Well c8 you are of course entitlement to your opinion, I'm just stating mine. I didn't see the last hour or 2, what 'goady' things did pandora say then out of interest, can you remember?

paxillin · 11/11/2017 19:40

I think it would be a bit off to quote directly what posters said on another thread.

Hellomaryimback · 11/11/2017 19:42

Can I ask for clarification on what constitutes GF behaviour

It's subjective.

I've been called a GF just for having a different view. Its flung about to easily

C8H10N4O2 · 11/11/2017 19:43

I don't need to remember, I have the page saved. Its a habit of mine if I've made many posts in a thread which gets deleted.

The point I personally found goady was the persistent repeating that we believe at face value the claim of a random poster with no history, whom I don't know from Adam, that her story which closely matched a recent FB scam, had been verified by MNHQ.

This despite MNHQ being careful to say they did not know one way or the other regularly warning us not to believe what we read from random posters. Its appalling advice to give and against MN recommendations.

Hellomaryimback · 11/11/2017 19:47

Ah... my experience in RL 'I'm just a straight talker'.. often means - 'I'm actually quite rude and nasty'!

Also domes Ines straight talking doesn't mean it's the truth !

MaisyPops · 11/11/2017 20:00

It's possible to be a straight talker and polite. Just polite straight talkers wouldn't describe themselves as being straight talkers.

Straight talkers also say things like 'i'm not racist but... and no offence but...'

paxillin · 11/11/2017 20:01

True. "I am not a racist, but ..." is always followed by a racist statement.

ShiftyMcGifty · 11/11/2017 20:08

"I don't need to remember, I have the page saved. Its a habit of mine if I've made many posts in a thread which gets deleted."

Step away from the screen. Smell the crisp autumn air outside. Get a hobby that doesn't revolve around anonymous posters on the internet.

Do you not keep copies of things you have sent/written? Over the years I have made it a habit for work/non work and found it quite useful, takes one click of a button before you close.

And I can do it without patronising anyone.

User843022 · 11/11/2017 20:59

'Do you not keep copies of things you have sent/written? Over the years I have made it a habit for work/non work and found it quite useful, takes one click of a button before you close. '
Yes, work related or important things. Not from chat forums

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/11/2017 21:04

frothing

There's another subjective word

Obviously myrtle has her opinion but i cant see how people were frothing

Still Thats only my opinion Grin

User843022 · 11/11/2017 21:05

'The point I personally found goady was the persistent repeating that we believe at face value the claim of a random poster with no history, whom I don't know from Adam'

Also, imo that is not being goady. It is being persistent, perhaps repetitive but that is often needed on mn when people constantly deride and sneer. Goading applies more to what posters did to pandora on the deleted thread and on this one including that very hilair now deleted meme.

ShiftyMcGifty · 11/11/2017 21:08

I'm not being patronising. Note the lack of head tilts and other wankerynin brackets. I'm genuinely what the fucking. You thinking it's perfectly normal and I'm being patronising is even more disturbing. No. I genuinely am not that invested in what I write anonymously on here. I name change all the time, so I don't keep track of who's who. Except for the few posters who have gone out of their way to get a "reputation" and be known on here. I usually note them and skip right over their posts.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/11/2017 21:48

Yes, work related or important things. Not from chat forums

It would actually take more braincycles to stop and think 'is this work, important non work or general discussion' than it does to save as I close. What you find weird is automatic. I dare say you do things automatically that others find weird.

Also, imo that is not being goady

Hence the 'personally'. I find it goady to keep trying to reinforce doing something explicitly advised against by MN. Not just once out of ignorance, but repeatedly and continuing when questioned about the wisdom of it.

I find that more goady than 'did - didn't' type responses because its actually dangerous and for no more purpose than to pursue an argument. Did-didn'ts are just annoying noise.

paxillin · 11/11/2017 21:58

GF: Goad goad goad.
Other poster bites.
GF: Add an innocently obtuse thing.
Other poster bites again.
GF: You froth.

ShiftyMcGifty · 11/11/2017 22:09

"It would actually take more braincycles to stop and think 'is this work"

I'm sorry it's gotten to the point where you can't make that almost automatic distinction between your job and a chat board and give both equal weigh in your life.

User843022 · 11/11/2017 22:16

'Not just once out of ignorance, but repeatedly and continuing when questioned about the wisdom of it. '
Well that's MN for you, people argue their point and if you think that is goady then chat forums maybe aren't for you.
Goady, imo, is when people mock, sneer and purposefully wind people up.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/11/2017 22:46

Oh I've been doing online groups since before chat forums existed.

Goady, imo, is when people mock, sneer and purposefully wind people up

ISTM that is what exactly was happening. The OP seemed more invested in winning an argument than the meaning of what they were saying. Argue and bicker by all means but repeatedly recommending behaviours which are stupid and dangerous online simply in an attempt to 'win' - yes I call that goady.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/11/2017 22:51

'm sorry it's gotten to the point where you can't make that almost automatic distinction between your job and a chat board and give both equal weigh in your life.

And that isn't patronising?

If you don't understand how to automate saving so that you don't have to think about it and the action is to stop it - well google is your friend.

You also seem remarkably invested in my work processes for someone who is above all this trivia.

Goady fuckery is still prevalent because there are lots of GFs on this site.

We all know it.

I'd rather have troll hunters on a thread than a goady fucker who bleats on about guidelines and troll hunters.

clownfaces · 12/11/2017 02:01

I read an awful lot of threads but don't post on many.
I read the post about troll hunters and thought it was a taat and goady.
I didn't post on it but saw the deletion message

It was no better than troll posts imo.

What was the point of it?
🤡🤡

WomblingThree · 12/11/2017 08:40

@BoucleJacket, exactly what I meant.

OP posts:
User843022 · 12/11/2017 08:58

'Id rather have troll hunters on a thread than a goady fucker who bleats on about guidelines and troll hunters.'

Good for you. I'd rather have someone who 'bleats on about guidelines' than goady fuckers continually sneering and taking the piss out of posters and posting 'asslicking' memes.
