Why is Goady Fuckery still so prevalent on MumsNet

Anyone that has been here a while knows the —rules— guidelines. It seems that posters can still blatantly start TAATs and post goady shite and get away with it.

What’s the point of having guidelines if certain posters can disregard them anyway?

You practically filled your own thread Pandora, that's why yours 'took off'. You're like a kid desperate for the last word.

Can I third paxillin's suggestion?

It's brilliant.

MNHQ can only respond to reports, they probably deal with thousands in a day which is why it seems to take a while before anything is done.

Yes, which is why many of the comments in the other thread were focused on the need to beef up the capability of the mod team with more people, plus the processes and technology to support them.

However when reporting a dodgy post you also have to consider that some posters have reported being banned for over reporting in cases where they were proven correct. I would hope they are invited back in that situation.

Personally I think meta threads, they can be very useful. I'd be in favour of a liberal approach to it so long as it wasn't an attempt to reopen or start a troll/GF thread or create a personal soap box.

Paxillin

fourthed!

OldWitch00 · 11/11/2017 14:54

But GF sometimes are just telling it straight.
Personally it’s the straight talkers that make the threads interesting.

GerdaLovesLili · 11/11/2017 15:06

Hateful to me as the gates of Hades is that man who hides one thing in his heart and speaks another. HOMER (THE ILIAD)

See, even Homer hated GFs. Fifthed fpr Paxillin's suggestion.

Sixes to Paxillin. I've had my beef about MRA wannabes on a site stuff thread so I'd like some specimens from that cesspit in there too please.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/11/2017 16:20

Yep i 7th (is it?) pax

I cant stand goady fuckers

And people who deliberately lie about what another poster has said...there are loads of them

And those dozers fuckers who extrapolate out by saying things like 'oh so you are saying....'

Hate em

clownfaces · 11/11/2017 16:26

Count me in as 8th pax
Thanks 🤡🤡

MaisyPops · 11/11/2017 16:26

Am just sleep deprived or couldn't this thread about GF potentially be put in the GF category?

If we do have a GF topic though I wouldn't want to shift racist/disablist etc GF threads to it as it'll probably give the posters some sense of greatess. Other non offensive ones though cpuld be good.

NameChanger22 · 11/11/2017 16:27

I think people should be able to say almost anything they like. If you don't like what is being said you can easily move to another thread. I think Mumsnet has become very censored lately with anything sensitive or interesting being deleted. People have been rude to me on here, but it's never bothered me because I don't really care about the opinions of strangers.

MaisyPops · 11/11/2017 16:35

namechanher
I also think lately people are quick to say GF ad a subsitute for 'someone who disagrees with me and won't roll over'.

I have been called a GF for having the radical view on school threads that the way to deal with situations is: 'be open to the fact that children and teens are perfectly capable of spinning a story, but if someone has a concern they should ring the school and calmly speak to the teacher and aim fir a resolution either way. If you ring up school livid & demanding meetings with the head then it doesn't solve thr issue ahd you risk looking like an idiot'
Apparently 'OMG you can tell who teaches. If my child was taught by you then i would be reporting you to the head!'

Suggesting a calm, measured approach on school threads is the heighy if GF apparently. Grin

I disagree. Calling a spade a spade/ saying it like it is/ being a straight talker is an age-old apology of unpleasant bullies. I quite like straight talkers. It is possible to disagree and to be quite blunt without turning into a GFer. GFers every response is designed to outrage and provoke.

Notreallyarsed · 11/11/2017 17:00

I like straight talkers, I don’t like GF/people who set out to hurt/shock/distress. There is a very big difference.

woollyminded · 11/11/2017 17:17

Yep. Online discussion is dominated by fora where goading, yelling, personal attack and tribalism are the norm. I come here because it isn't the norm and welcome this opportunity to say so and discuss it without being called a snowflake or some other thing intended to shut me down.

My experience of 'free speech means I can say whatever I want, I'm just a straight talker' comes with an expectation of freedom from consequence of those words. And the 'if you don't like it go away' response means that an awful lot of people do in fact go away leaving places poorer for it.

Coconutspongexo · 11/11/2017 17:23

I also like Paxs opinion

Coconutspongexo · 11/11/2017 17:23

Suggestion even

woollyminded · 11/11/2017 17:28

Opigestion

Battleax · 11/11/2017 17:43

Yes that is genius pac. I'll eleventh (?) that.

Battleax · 11/11/2017 17:43

Pax, even.

Coconutspongexo · 11/11/2017 18:04

I don’t know how my brain muddled up opinion and suggestion Grin

woollyminded · 11/11/2017 18:08

I wouldn't worry Dipping, I realised at 8am that I'd put my bra on wrong and still haven't done anything about it. Not always important to be perfect if the thing is doing the job!

Coconutspongexo · 11/11/2017 18:27

Grin makes me feel better!

You’re a hero keeping your bra on wrong though
