Why does MN local think I'm in Sheffield?

I've just noticed that the 'talk near you' box on my MN thinks I'm in Sheffield. I'm not in or near Sheffield.

I looked to see if I could change it but there was no simple or obvious way. I couldn't be bothered spending any time on it.

But I did wonder if there's any reason it might decide that I'm in Sheffield.

Hello OP!

We're really sorry about this - it's definitely not right. We've been updating this thread about the same issue and we just wanted to assure you that we're aware of the problem and looking to fix it.

Is your ISP Plusnet by any chance?

ArbitraryName · 28/09/2017 16:41

No. Sky.

So it should probably be telling me that my local site is hell.

I'm in London, apparently.

Grin good one Arbitary

I was wondering if IP addresses were allocated according to location of the provider. I'm often considered to be in Sheffield and that's what I'd put it down to.

I'm not in Sheffield (or near Hell) Smile

Ooh, just had a look and it thinks I'm in Milton Keynes. I am not! I am wondering if there is anyone on here actually in Milton Keynes, and where MN local thinks you are?

I think I'd rather be in hell than MK! Grin

Maybe the Sheffield board is just particularly exciting so the algorithm is desperate to share it with as many people as possible.
