Notification of deleted posts / deleted threads

As far as I know, I have rarely had posts or threads deleted.

Well - a couple of posts have been deleted where they contain a quote from an offensive post (with the offensive post being deleted and other posts containing material from the offensive post also being deleted). And have had a couple of TAATs deleted - but on self-reporting myself to Mumsnet.

I have found out about deletions when going to back to the relevant threads.

Do you think it would be a good idea for posters to be given an automatic notification when their posts / threads are deleted - ie so they know when they are overstepping the mark and can modify their posting accordingly? (Or would this result in some more 'robust' posters challenging the deletions and more work for MNHQ?).

Hi, Aridane

As far as doing this automatically every time we delete a post, well we're not sure if it's actually technically possible...

Whilst we appreciate that it would be really helpful for posters to know when something has been deleted, it's likely that we wouldn't be able to separate spam deletions and troll deletions.

Thing is, we wouldn't automatically email everyone about deleted posts and technically speaking, we're not sure how we'd differentiate these spam/troll posters from our lovely Mumsnetters if it was not being done manually (and we don't have the resources for that).

We're always happy to hear suggestions from our users and will certainly pass this one over to the rest of the team. We're also happy to answer any deletion queries with a mail to [email protected]!
