Threads that ask for personal information

Can I ask if you could have a think about a policy on threads that ask about personal information?

I am concerned for a number of reasons

The daily mail lift threads and if people can be identified through the advance search function it's leaving them open to this

Also we tell our children to be careful in the Internet about people not being who they say they are and using information etc and it seems a bit incongruous that threads that ask for personal details on here are allowed to stand without even as much as a warning.

Look at the recent hoo hah and how someone was identified and searched in real life from info they have posted here.

Hi Slowcookerheaven,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

We do try to remind folks to be a bit circumspect with personal details, to namechange often, and to remember that this is an open site that everyone (including journalists) can read.

At the same time, we try to treat our members like adults - it really is up to you how much or how little you share. It's a tricky line to tread! If you spot anything that concerns you, please do report to us and we will always take a closer look.
