Hi

I recently found this feature and have applied it to a thread when I've got to the end and am going to look at something different.

My expectation was that, when I went back into the thread, it would scroll me down to the last point I'd gotten to, but it doesn't. If I commented on page 4 then bookmarked it, when I go back it doesn't take me to that page.

Am I missing something?????

You can only have one bookmark per thread. So when you re-open a thread it should take you to where you left your bookmark.

Have you set the bookmarks to work though? You can do this in Customise/Preferences www.mumsnet.com/Talk?call=Preferences by clicking on Yes in Display Bookmark Links - and then Save.

I'll have a look Fru, thank you.

So if it's a thread that runs to many pages and you bookmark on say page 5, it would take you back to page 5, yeah?

You go away, have a bath, come back to your laptop - now the thread has 7 pages and you're redirected to page 5 (to the top of page 5 or does it also scroll you down to the exact bookmark location??). So you read those next two pages and have to go away from your computer again - does bookmarking on page 7 remove the bookmark that I put on page 5 - or do you have to delete the one on page 5 then put the next one on on page 7? !!!!!!!! Sorry!!!!!

In theory book marking on page 7 should remove the one on page 5 and replace it with the one of page 7 but I have noticed this feature is not working properly for me any and stopped working properly after the reset of the threads I am on update debarcle. So I am wondering if somehow it has introduced a bit of a bug?

FruBayerischOla · 21/08/2017 19:55

Ah. I think I'm with you now! Your bookmark will be where you left it. The bookmark doesn't 'follow' the thread, it stays where you put it.

So if/when the thread moves on, you'll only return to your own personal bookmark. Then you'll have to work your way through the new bits of the thread - reading other responses etc - and then when you get to the end and/or post another reply you have to re-bookmark at the last post/your reply. So when you return to the thread the next time, it will take you to your last bookmark - as I said, you can only have one bookmark per thread so you just move it along as you read/post.

Think of it as a hard copy book where you only have one hard copy bookmarker. You've put the book down at page 50, so you put your bookmarker into page 50. You pick the book up again and find your place on page 50. You then read another 20 pages, so you put your bookmarker into page 70.

I hope this is making sense?!?! Blush

keeponworking · 21/08/2017 20:28

Yes, thanks both. I also think it's not actually working fully - I've checked and the settings are correct.

Are you using the App, keepon? I gather there are a number of problems with the App at the moment. If you can get onto the desktop or mobile site, then it should work for you - but not when you go back onto the App.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/08/2017 21:05

I am on the desktop fru i think it is just an update quirk tbh.

keeponworking · 21/08/2017 22:20

I'm access through the Chrome browser on a Chromebook - only just started using the Bookmark feature recently so I've not really got anything to compare it to to determine if it's not working right (iyswim!).

OP posts:
FruBayerischOla · 22/08/2017 06:40

So is it actually bookmarking your place, keepon? The bookmark is in the bottom right hand corner of a post - hover your cursor in that area, a little blue box saying Bookmark appears, click on that and it will say Saved. So when you return to the thread it will take you directly to the last post that you bookmarked (it can be a little slow sometimes if it's a long thread). And then when you've read subsequent posts - or added a new one of your own - you then bookmark the last post, so the bookmark has moved on. Assuming you've closed the thread, when you return to it again, it will take you to your last bookmark.

I'm on the desktop site and haven't had any problems at all with the bookmark, so I'm a bit Confused now YesEinsteins!! I mean, I'm not confused with the bookmarks - I'm just a bit confused that it hasn't been working for some people! Maybe MNHQ tech can shed some light?

stumblymonkeyagain · 22/08/2017 06:57

I've never been able to get the Bookmark feature to work on the app Sad

keeponworking · 22/08/2017 07:42

No Fru, I'm ok with applying it after initially not being able to figure out where it was located (doh!)! but it's how it reacts that has been foxing me.

I'll need to watch it in a more focused way over the next few times I use it and see if it does actually take me to the last marked post - that's the bit I don't think it's doing - I believe it doesn't even take me to the page never mind the actual bookmarked post.

I shall conduct research and see if it actually isn't doing what I think it isn't doing iyswim.

Hi keeponworking - do let us know if you find it doesn't work for you.

keeponworking · 22/08/2017 11:51

Will do!

Hello, sorry I know this is a very old thread. But does anyone know if there's a place I can see the things I've bookmarked?
I bookmarked a thing the other day because I wanted to keep it for future reference but I can't remember which thread it was on. Is there a place that lists the threads I've bookmarked?

Hello!

The bookmarking feature takes you to the place you left off when returning to a thread - so there isn't a catalogue as such.

However, if you have watched or posted on threads, you can take a look at your threads I'm watching or your threads I'm on.

If you want to save a thread, it's always best to click the watch this thread button at the top, so it saves to the TIO list. Flowers

Z0rr0 · 09/06/2020 17:13

Ahh, good tip. Thank you.

Z0rr0 · 09/06/2020 17:20

Turns out the thing I bookmarked was on a thread I hadn't contributed to. Doh! No idea what that was then. Senior moment.

Bloodybridget · 11/06/2020 15:36

Can I ask a question too? I can bookmark threads on my Android phone and tablet, but I can't find the option on my PC laptop.

Z0rr0 · 11/06/2020 16:50

Bookmark just comes up on the screen if I hover my mouse over a person's post.

Bloodybridget · 11/06/2020 17:49

I'll try that, Z0rr0, thanks
