problems typing a link

sometimes (but not always) when I try to do a link to a different website, the words "mumsnet.com" somehow gets inserted before my link. this means my link doesnt work.
it doesnt happen when i do a link to another MN thread.
Does anyone know why this happens? How can I stop it?

i've seen this happen too. it hasn't happened to me and i don't know how it does happen. so really that wasn't helpful at all. sorry.

It's because you didn't explicitly state the at the beginning. The link system assumes you mean a local page so will reference the www.mumsnet.com first.

Can someone please explain to me how to do a link?

It is something i have never tried - and wouldn't have a clue how to do it!!

GeorginaA · 16/07/2004 18:48

saintshar - there's instructions at the bottom of each thread, underneath the list of available emoticons.

  • I tend to cut and paste too, but then I'm dreadful at typos in urls, and it seems the safest way to do it!
gloworm · 16/07/2004 21:56

thanks for that GeorginaA, I usually only put the www bit in, not the bit.

saintshar this is how do do a link

type: \link

followed by: www.websiteaddress

followed by: \this{}

All on one line and dont use any spaces.
Instead of typing the word "this" you can write whatever word you want to appear on the screen for mumsnetters to see(you can use spaces in this bit)

hope that makes sense
