Web chat with Dr Sara Ryan mother of Connor Sparrowhawk

Can we please have a web chat with Dr Ryan at an appropriate stage?

I for one as a family member of a child with LDs would greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn from her campaign and what those of us with family members with LDs and MH needs need to be aware of when engaging with health organisations.

I am sure many of us immensely admire her struggle for justice for her much loved son.

Now wouldn't be the right time as the GMC hearings are on but maybe she would be willing to come once those are over if she has time.

I am full of admiration for Dr Ryan and her family. The death of her beautiful boy whilst in the care of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust remains an appalling, preventable tragedy.

I'm glad I'm not alone, Donkey. I have started following Dr Ryan's blog this week and frequently find myself moved to tears.

No words can express the bravery of such determination to seek justice.

I think others here would find it inspiring to hear from Dr Ryan.

I'm so sorry I just realised I have misspelled Dr Ryan's first name - it is Sara. I will report my own post and ask mnhq to edit.

Thank you HQ

I think this is an area where there needs to be much more awareness. I am not sure how fair it would be to ask Sara Ryan herself even once the GMC proceedings are over but certainly an approach to the Justice for LB campaign would be good.

AnneofGreenGablesAgain · 17/08/2017 07:36

Thank you Haud. Every day I read Sara's blog and think the same about the awareness.

Someone else from the justice for lb campaign is a great idea Flowers

Hello!

Thanks so much for flagging this to us.

As always, if there's a lot of interest in a subject/person, we'll do our best to try and make it happen (we can never make promises, though...)

If people continue to leave their thoughts on this thread, that'd be great.

Thanks Lorna Flowers - I feel so passionately about this and am hoping others on here do too. It fits very well with mumsnet this is my child I think.

Conor was Sara's beloved child and the inquest has shown he died entirely unnecessarily.

I'm sorry. I keep misspelling things - Connor that should have been. Please do edit if you can, Lorna.

I agree that a web chat with Dr Ryan would be valuable and interesting.

There is usually a feedback form towards the end of web chat threads, and I've often mentioned Dr Ryan when asked for suggestions as to candidates for forthcoming chats.

(Just as an aside Anne you might also be interested in Love Belief and Balls, which is Mark Neary's blog.)

AnneofGreenGablesAgain · 21/08/2017 20:02

I haven't seen his, so thank you. I have been looking at what I think must be the twitter of MNetter Saintlyjimjsms and also another MNettr StarlightMc. Will add Mark N.

Yes. A very good idea indeed. The under carpet brushing and covering up of many MH Trusts is all too common. The culture of excuses needs to be dealt with. Ours has just been fined £300k for failings which led to a death which had been drawn to their attention by the young man's mother.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/08/2017 20:46

This is a nationwide problem which needs highlighting.

I would welcome a webchat with Dr. Ryan when the time is right.

Mummylin · 21/08/2017 21:20

I would support this webchat. What an awful thing to of happened.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 22/08/2017 11:57

Actually, I agree that it would be more sensitive to approach Justice For LB in the first instance.

AnneofGreenGablesAgain · 22/08/2017 19:29

I agree too Bewitched.

When I started the thread I was thinking of how much we could learn from Dr Ryan and how having webchat would help highlight the campaign.

I've absolutely taken on board what people have said since my initial post about it being much better to ask Justice for LB and agree with it.

I agree, she's an inspirational woman, with very wise words.
