A banhammer list?

One of the things that's come out of the last few days is the confusion over regular users and the lack of feedback over reports/bannings.
The subreddit (yes I'm lurking in a very passive undecided way since you mention the lurkers Grin) has wild speculation. Whilst you aren't accountable for what's discussed there, the fact it's a topic says there's an issue
Playing by the rules and reporting a poster results in no feedback.
A banned poster goes quietly or re-regs.
If nobody knows them offboard, nobody knows they're banned.
If they re-reg and we recognise them, how do we know to report as a PBP? If MNHQ staff weren't about for a 'thing' would they know?
How do users 'see' moderation beyond a deleted post? That works on an immediate level but not long term.

Are you asking for a list of people that have been banned?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/08/2017 01:11

Sorry, I don't understand what you are getting at.

If you suspect a PBP them report the thread/post?

ExplodedCloud · 11/08/2017 09:06

How do you know they're a PBP though?

DonkeyOaty · 11/08/2017 09:23

Some of our returnees are one trick ponies posting the same over and over.

AuntieStella · 11/08/2017 09:27

A PBP who no longer posts in the way that caused them to be banned (or in any other way that regipulakry breaches Talk Guidelines) is unlikely to be spotted, because they are no longer a problem.

You have to go by the posts, not the poster.

Longevity is no guarantee that someone is not a sleeper-troll, but someone with a long and perfectly normal posting history is more likely to be someone having an off-day than a menace who needs banning.

ExplodedCloud · 11/08/2017 10:34

But MNHQ don't go purely by the posts. I've seen them delete PBP as soon as they're spotted for very ordinary posts. And what's the point of a ban if all you have to do is re-reg and behave?
For example I recognised a poster I thought was banned. I report it. Nothing happens. Do I assume they weren't banned? Or have MNHQ not recognised that they're the same? Do I report again?
Obviously if they were warned or suspended then they're back legitimately and I need to shut up. If I ask if a poster is banned would MNHQ tell me?
It's the lack of feedback in the loop, particularly now that emails have been reduced.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 11/08/2017 11:51

But why do you care?

Sparklingbrook · 11/08/2017 14:05

I think you just have to report and let MNHQ get on with it, if not responding to reports means they can look into more reports that's better. If the poster is still around after your report you must assume they checked and 'there's nothing to suggest...etc'

If you have a burning desire to know something email them, see what they say.

NauticalDisaster · 13/08/2017 13:22

Why the fuck do you give a shiny shit?

SerfTerf · 13/08/2017 13:32

Ah bless you exploded but you're sounding a teeny bit "Girl Scout" Grin

You basically want a full list of banned posters so you can go PBP hunting? That's a bit mad. It would be an epic list anyway. Too long to be much use.

LunarGirl · 13/08/2017 13:34

You recognised a poster you thought was banned and reported them. What for? Did you report them because their post was offensive/troll like? Or just because you thought they had been banned so wanted to go tell on them? If it's the latter then I'm not sure why it bothers you so much. There could be any number of reasons why MNHQ banned/suspended them and now they're back. Not sure I could get myself worked up about it to be honest. Unless of course they are a PBP coming back to stir up trouble or troll then of course report.

Mamagin · 13/08/2017 13:55

You must have a great deal of time on your hands. Would you like us to recommend some good books, or a nice, solitary, hobby?

Floralnomad · 13/08/2017 13:58

MNHQ will not discuss other posters / how they handle other posters with anybody else and quite rightly so .

BenLui · 13/08/2017 14:04

With the best will in the world, this isn't school. Being banned isn't equivalent to expulsion.

This is a public site. People are welcome as long as they behave themselves.

If you didn't behave yourself when you were named "Susan" but have renamed yourself "Mary" and are now being good as gold how is that a problem?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/08/2017 14:09

If a post offends you or if you think it's spam then report.

That's it.

youcan · 13/08/2017 15:57

MN will ban in that instance Ben

ExplodedCloud · 13/08/2017 16:41

Sorry if it was a bit Girl Scout. It was idle thoughts late at night. Plainly a mistake. It was a specific set of circumstances and it just made me wonder so I asked. Plenty of other things in my life to worry about thanks.

lynmilne65 · 14/08/2017 07:13

elQuintoConyo · 14/08/2017 07:22

It's an internet forum. One of many. Not a pub.

Report report report. Let mnhq do what they do.

lynmilne65 · 14/08/2017 07:36
