Mumsnet local

I had an e-mail about Mumsnet trying to get the local pages used more and I think it is a good idea. I did post before the e-mail and had one reply. Would it be more accessible if a MN local was put on the 'Talk' header? For those of you who use MN local how do you get in touch? I am a little Envy when posters discuss meet ups. At least I could decide whether to go or not Grin.

If it's any help, a number of recent issues with MN Local are being discussed on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2973656-Come-and-spread-the-Mumsnet-love-locally

Re meet-ups, I think many of them are arranged in either the Meet Ups topic www.mumsnet.com/Talk/meetups (although it seems a fairly quiet topic too!) or in the Chat topic. Certainly the London ones that I go to are arranged in Chat - and I've noticed that there have been a couple of Scottish meet ups this year - also arranged in Chat.

Hi there

Thanks so much for your feedback - we're pleased to hear you want to help us and get involved with your Mumsnet Local site.

We now have a 'Local' tab which should be appearing next to 'Active' on Talk (see screenshot marked with a green pin). If you have a Local site set, you should also be able to see an Active talk thread from that Local talk board appearing within the Active Conversations topic.

As we go on we'll be thinking of more ways to integrate Local with main Talk and want to streamline the two as much as possible. In the meantime, if you'd like to look at your Local talk board and post an answer, offer advice or share local info we would really appreciate it. As we said on our official Site Stuff thread there are prizes to be won. Thanks so much Grin

I took a look in response to the email, but didn't post because I would be too identifiable on a teeny local board. I would have to namechange and don't know how easy that is.

AliceMumsnet · 18/07/2017 15:07

HI kitty

At the moment you can name change through 'My Account' and this name will be on Local Talk. You can then change back if you want a different one for the main site, however we're looking into how we can make this easier for those that wish to keep separate usernames.

kittybiscuits · 18/07/2017 16:48

Thanks for this Alice. I would be happiest with the 'in' name and 'out there' name if that becomes possible.

FruBayerischOla · 18/07/2017 17:39

But, Alice, the point of the conversation on the other thread is precisely that. Previously, the site would 'recognise' us between our usual MN NNs and our MN Local NNs, so it switches automatically - which IT IS NOT doing at the moment.

We all know how to NC, but as our Local sites had the automatic NC, this appears to be a recent downgrade?

Has anyone in MNHQ joined the dots???

kittybiscuits · 18/07/2017 18:02

I am rubbish and don't know how to namechange 😂

FruBayerischOla · 18/07/2017 19:09

kitty, you need to go into My Account www.mumsnet.com/member/registration-details, where you can name change. It works differently with different devices etc.

However, that's not the point. MN used to automatically switch our nicknames between our usual NNs and our Local NNs. This isn't happening now.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it Hmm

kittybiscuits · 19/07/2017 17:47

Thanks Fru Smile

Sadik · 20/07/2017 22:50

FruBayer I did exactly that - posted in response to the email, without realising that they'd stopped the automatic name change.

I don't mind as plenty of RL people know who I am under my regular username, but still a bit irritating that MN didn't draw attention to the change.

MadeinBelfast · 20/07/2017 22:51

How do I find my local board when using the app? Also, I want to reply to a post on a local board but although I get the 'success' message after posting my post hasn't appeared. The OP name on the thread isn't in green either so I don't know if there's a problem on the local site? It's the Belfast board and is called something like 'Gahh'!

FruBayerischOla · 21/07/2017 11:00

I don't think you can access Local on the App.
