MN deleting threads - a question if you will

Hi MN Admins,

I have a question in relation to decisions being made to delete threads on the Talk boards rather than just locking them - why don't you lock them so no more posts can be made to them rather than deleting them (which imo seems a little excessive and sometimes a bit heavy handed)?

Having the reason as "TAAT" could cover about 50% of all of the posts and threads on MN based on the situation described in the posts - MIL issues, dropping friends due to unreasonable behaviour, posts relating to money (should I pay/should they pay/can't afford it what do I do/she says she can't afford it, what do I do) and so on....
Any chance that the policy to delete threads on MN could be reviewed and a new policy be rolled out whereby MN Admins post a message saying "This thread is being locked as it is about another thread" in the relevant thread and then lock it??

I think it would curtail the number of threads about threads about threads going forward.

Looking forward to reading your response to my suggestion.
