Mumsnet making browsers hang

Atenco · 03/07/2017 16:14

This last week if I open up mumsnet it is guaranteed that ten or fifteen minutes later my browser will hang. I've even started using another browser, but with the same result.

Does anyone else have this problem. It's starting to look like I might have to drop out.

Hello!

So sorry to hear about this.

What browsers have you tried? And when you say hang, do you mean it won't load properly or is laggy?

I normally use Firefox and since last week started using Google Chrome with the same result. It all goes slow that freezes.

it starts off complaining that the name of the site and the name on the security certificate don't match, and you have to click several times to continue against recommendation. Then long running scripts on active but most particularly watched threads list. Then it locks up after, as OP says, about 15-20 mins.
It does it for me on Explorer, but I've switched to Edge on a new laptop with loads of space and it's doing that one as well.

Same here - I use firefox and it keeps hanging when I use mumsnet but all other websites no problem at all

AppleAndBlackberry · 03/07/2017 17:37

I use the mobile site in Chrome. and I get days where it hangs or freezes frequently. I think it's related to loading adverts.

DixieFlatline · 06/07/2017 13:09

I'm having problems with the desktop site with the browser (Chrome) seeming to be in a cycle of reloading and not, reloading and not, and making everything slow and jerky when trying to scroll down through threads. I too suspect it has to do with adverts. It is incredibly annoying and has been going on for a couple of weeks.

I've been having intermittent, but lengthy, episodes of this having for about a year now.
It only happens when I'm using MN, other sites aren't affected.
I've reported it many times but as yet there's been no resolution. It's been running fine for me for the last couple of weeks, but if my experience in the last year or so is anything to go by I'll be having issues again sooner or later.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for letting us know.

Tech are looking into this but can we check that you're viewing 25 posts per page? This can affect usability quite a lot.

I don't divide mine up into pages

I was viewing 50 per page but have switched it to 25. Thanks for the tip Lorna.

DixieFlatline · 06/07/2017 20:55

It was still rendering pages unusable so I installed an ad blocker instead. I realise this is not at all a desired solution from MN's perspective, but it means I can actually use the site, so I'll consider it a win. Running just fine now!

Orlantina · 07/07/2017 10:04

MN seems very slow. It has lots of "waiting for" at the bottom when the website connects to the ad sites.

Ginkypig · 08/07/2017 12:51

I have just tested

Puffin crashes within about 10/15 mins, and once it does it happens over and over until you give up.

Chrome safari and Firefox all have the same problem I had before that pages just will not load or load and then as you scroll go blank so you can't ever read a thread! I posted on a different thread in site stuff a while ago about this but didn't follow up because I found that puffin worked until now!

To make it clear, all of these different browsers only have these problems with mumsnet all other websites on all of the browsers work fine.

Atenco · 08/07/2017 22:55

Thank you DixieFlatline, that seems to have solved my problem. Sorry Mumsnet for blocking your ads, but I have no spending money anyway.
