Zombie threads. What's the latest?

This 3 year old thread got resurrected today

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1998648-In-assuming-most-men-going-on-holiday-alone-to-Thailand-are-going-to-have-sex-with-prostituted-women-or-men?msgid=70179735

Can we have a permanent warning at the top and bottom of the thread? PLEASE? Or lock them? Or delete AIBU threads after a year or something? I believe it was being looked into.

MNHQ said they would look into it but nothing came of it. It annoys a lot of people so I don't know why they don't act on it. I suggested a traffic light system if they didn't want to lock it by the background colour of the ops posts being different like they do with their own posts

Over a month old but up to 6 months old green
6 -12 months old amber
Over 12 months old red

That way it would be obvious before you spend time reading and commenting that it is a zombie. No-one has commented on that idea though.

Sparklingbrook · 03/07/2017 08:34

A while ago they said the warning might be offputting to newbies.

I would have thought users shouting zombie thread would be more offputting.

I don't know why chat and aibu threads can't be locked after six months or a year. Anyone wanting to give updates could start a new tread and link to the old one.

EdithWeston · 03/07/2017 08:44

As the MN habit is to start a new thread, then why on earth shouldn't it be off-putting?

Tweak verbiage to make it clear that a new thread is welcome, but only reanimate if (directly) updating the earlier conversation.

Other sites have other habits, which might be one reason why people think it's neutral/OK to do here. If they are put off by having it pointed out there is a different norm here, perhaps it isn't the site for them.

meditrina · 03/07/2017 08:45

Chat threads can't be locked after 6 months because they're deleted after 3!

Sparklingbrook · 03/07/2017 08:55

I have never understood why AIBU threads have to stay for all eternity but Chat go after 90 days...

Hi folks,

There will be a solution to this, we promise - it won't be like this for too much longer. It's a little way down our Big List so it might take a little while - but we'll keep you posted though, and rest assured it will be done.

Thanks Lorna. What's at the top of the Big List?

I hope it's this [kitten].

Grin I thought I'd joined some weird cult when I first saw a thread with 100 people shouting ZOMBIE zombie this is a zombie and posting zombie pictures.

WaitrosePigeon · 05/07/2017 16:25

Why can't they be a pop up in the middle of the screen telling the user that it's a zombie thread?

WaitrosePigeon · 05/07/2017 16:25

There
