Child and dog safety

Having seen a video on your Facebook page with a child climbing on a dog to reach the fridge I felt compelled to say something.

Every year 100s of family dogs are euthanised for showing aggression or even worse biting children. Occasionally horrific accounts of how children have been killed by a family dog hit our news.

What these stories don't cover is the how and why. Dogs are not people. They are animals. When unhappy they communicate by subtle body language initially (as can be seen in the video posted), this progresses to growling (which they are often punished for) and finally - BITING.

I feel that by posting content like this to your FB you are somehow encouraging this behaviour by making it funny/cute.

Please instead look to educate families/mums/dads on how to keep their children (and dogs) safe.

Well said!

You have posted this on MN, not fb. Who are you addressing it to?

Hi there Concernedvet,

Thanks so much for flagging your concerns to us.

We had shared this video lightheartedly, but completely understand where you're coming from here. We will certainly keep in mind when we're sharing content in future.
