Bad Mother - the new comedy series exclusive to Mumsnet

Hello all,

Come and have a look at the very first episode of , a new comedy web series which we'll be showing exclusively on Mumsnet over the next six weeks.

It's a very relatable (and very sweary) show that we hope you'll enjoy - each episode is about five minutes long, so just right for watching with a (microwaved) cuppa while the kids run wild entertain themselves.

We'll remind you on our Mumsnet Facebook page every time a new episode goes live - so if you're not yet following us, now's the time to do so.

The series follows a beleaguered stay-at-home mum (Star Stories' Laura Patch, with Kevin Bishop as her husband) who's trying her best not to bugger up this parenting lark. Each episode tackles a particularly challenging parenting scenario - so if you've ever muttered under your breath about other people's children, dreaded yet another playdate, or felt some affinity with the phrase 'benign neglect', we think you'll find something to snigger over in Bad Mother.

Let us know what you think.

Really? This?

Stressed-out overworked wine-chugging mothers up to their eyeballs in washing and spaghetti hoops and shitty useless husbands?

How very fucking lazy, disappointing and patronising. Of all the thousands of women on here, with varied careers and interests and talents, you chose to put us right back in our fucking places didn't you? Confused

Quimby · 26/06/2017 16:10

Well that was genuinely shit

Groovee · 26/06/2017 16:39

I kept cringing!

PippaFawcett · 26/06/2017 21:21

I wanted to like it, but what Amy said really. Not original, not funny and playing up to worst stereotypes of parents.

Catwaving · 26/06/2017 22:12

Made me laugh out loud at the end which is good enough for me. Looking forward to seeing how it develops

user1495025590 · 26/06/2017 23:04

what is it with all the swearing? I mean I am not averse to a swear or 2 when the situation demands it, but the continuous gratuitous swearing on this, and those silly sweary threads are just 'try hard' and like 'oh aren't we edgy'. I could understand it from 13 year old but adult women- why?
I guess it's some sort of in joke, but I have been on MN nearly every day since my 16 yo was born and I don't get it.

BitOfFun · 27/06/2017 03:16

I really liked it. I thought it might be baby stuff I couldn't relate to, but it was funny. Thumbs up.

Biscuitybase · 27/06/2017 03:29

Well at least part of it was filmed in Muswell Hill - the Ham and High you see is for sale in a shop on MH Broadway! (I used to live just around the corner.)

It was a bit try-hard.

MarklahMarklah · 27/06/2017 09:48

Nice to see bits of Crouch End on screen!

BadLad · 27/06/2017 09:50

An Outnumbered-like program might work better, with the kids saying mumsnet phrases.

Parent: It's half nine, time you were off to bed.
6-year-old DDaughter: No, that doesn't work for me.
Parent: you've got school tomorrow.
Daughter: ODFOD

Groovee · 27/06/2017 10:28

@BadLad that works for me 😂

totorosfluffytummy · 27/06/2017 11:01

This crap has been done too many times before. Not original and not funny.

00100001 · 27/06/2017 14:41

Meh.

It was really obvious where it was going.

00100001 · 27/06/2017 14:46

What was the wobbly shot of the house, teddy bear wash and spaghetti montage in aid of? Confused

Heratnumber7 · 27/06/2017 14:50

Posting to remind myself to watch it

00100001 · 27/06/2017 14:52

I'm actually confused.

The first washing line scene was good. well done. clap clap.

However, at what point was the Mother 'convinced' to see the career consultant? We see her pulling a face at what she clearly thinks is a stupid idea... then the "wobbly house -> teddy -> spaghetti -> jaunty jog through town montage" and then we see her going about how great the career coach was? Confused

FlyingElbows · 27/06/2017 15:14

Is that meant to be amusing? Seriously, you've got a forum full of everything you could ask for and that's what you came up with? Tired, clichéd, done to death, mildly insulting bollocks. It's not even good enough to be "ironic". Try harder.

LTBiscuit · 27/06/2017 16:29

What do you think of it MNHQ?

RainbowBriteRules · 27/06/2017 16:33

That episode could have been my life though Confused, aside from the daytime drinking. Is quite nice to see something that understands the relentlessness of laundry, spaghetti hoops, always being late. Life at home with young children is boring and unoriginal. I found it nice to see something acknowledging that it is normal not to be perfect.

mumistheword14 · 27/06/2017 16:52

Not funny.

Largebucket · 27/06/2017 16:56

Does anyone actually do loads of random day time drinking? It's a one off for me if I know I'm going be meeting up with someone for the whole day so never spontaneous. I might need to get in the car.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 27/06/2017 18:02

Sorry, I didn't think it was very good. It was a bit try too hard, and the scene with husband was totally over the top!

123working · 27/06/2017 19:54

Really good - it isn't often that a 5 min clip can give you a laugh out loud moment, which this did.

Most of us think about what we can do differently workwise post children - to work less hours/more hours/more flexibly, and to escape the humdrum of some of the day to day ever repeating chores....
Certainly put a smile on my face, I look forward to the next one!

moreteavicar123 · 27/06/2017 20:50

Funny! Can't wait to see the next one.

Epipgab · 27/06/2017 21:32

I agree RainbowBriteRules.
