Ovendoor cleaning thread deleted for breaking talk guidelines?

This must have been one of the least contentious threads I've ever been on.

Please can I be nosey and find out how it went from about 5 posts suggesting using pastes, brillo pads, magic sponges and hot water to sudden deletion with just the breaking talk guidelines message?

Lurking. I suppose maybe someone advertised? But would have to be the op for the entire thread to go, surely

PurpleDaisies · 04/06/2017 22:21

Housekeeping is plagued by advertising trolls.

Wolfiefan · 04/06/2017 22:22

Just don't do the (think bicarb and vinegar) trick I saw online. Dripped down inside the door. Bloody mess!!!!

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 22:22

Haha. An oven door cleaning thread!??

😂

HoneyDragon · 04/06/2017 22:23

I think someone on MNHQ is new and confused about what constitutes product placement or MNHQ are now slaves to their contributors.

Because it's getting silly.

FlouncingInTheRain · 04/06/2017 22:30

I do bicarb and vinegar on stuff. Wonderous combination, its like a home science experiment watching it fizz up. I must get out more!

Like PurpleDaisies says Housekeeping gets lots of advertising trolls.

They start an innocuous thread looking for advice, then name change and reply to their own OP a few posts later, helpfully including a link to a product.

llangennith · 04/06/2017 22:36

Nothing worked on my disgusting oven so I bought a new one £200 and now I make sure I keep it clean.

brittanyfairies · 04/06/2017 22:38

I was on one about a yoghurt maker that got deleted. I did wonder what controversy had gone on😀

NorfolksGiven · 04/06/2017 22:39

I paid someone to clean my oven and pretended I'd only just moved in and it was the previous owners oven.

Everyone probably says that though 😂

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/06/2017 22:50

Every other thread in Housekeeping seems to be a spamming troll at the moment. Ask a question, change name and plug a product that you are selling, job done. I've hidden the topic now, I'm sick of it.

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 22:51

That's really bollocks - can't they just ban the posters? Or are they bots?

Highalert · 04/06/2017 22:53

Because it was probably started by a spammer. They start threads then answer themselves with links to products.

LornaMumsnet · 05/06/2017 11:33

Hi all,

Just had a look and can confirm that the thread we removed was spam.

We have a regular 'housekeeping' spammer' who posts a thread asking for advice on how to clean certain things... For example, an oven door! They will then reply to themselves with a useful product (under a different username).

We hate to leave spam up and it does break our talk guidelines, so always zap if this is the case.

We won't delete oven door threads unless we know it's a spammer, promise! Blush

FlouncingInTheRain · 05/06/2017 15:20

Thanks LornaMumsnet I missed that it was spam, or even this has become a thing! I just couldn't get my head around how a cleaning thread had broken talk guidelines.
