Ariawyn · 31/05/2017 19:54

No sorry

I mean the ones at the bottom of the page, need to scroll down

I agree, they are so cheap looking, hate these ads, take them away as they take forever to load!

jaggythistle · 02/06/2017 22:14

They really suck. So not classy.

More bad click bait.

Face palm guy is obviously ashamed to be in it .

Rather interestingly, when MNHQ started this thread : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2924841-Testing-a-new-links-widget-on-Chat?msgid=68975059* about these ads, on the 9th May this year , Ariawyn* was the first poster after the initial MNHQ post!

Hypothetically1 · 04/06/2017 06:08

I'd not seen that thread. Still hate click bait though!

daisychain01 · 04/06/2017 06:19

I have to say, the current ad campaign with two thin borders, one on each side, are awful. They use up a lot of screen real estate, and really are annoying because as you scroll up and down, they "follow you". Very obtrusive and spoil the MN experience.

I know MN is a commercial concern but it's getting ridiculous. The adverts seem to be overwhelming the actual content of the site nowadays.

The clickbate ones make the site look more like the Daily Fail

teawamutu · 06/06/2017 20:09

That clickbait shite at the bottom makes the site look seriously trashy imo and I've managed to click on one of the ' stories' while trying to reach my Threads I'm On.

Even my adblocker browser can't block them!

Mnhq, i still love you but i would cheerfully pay for an ad free version because this is horrible.

DisreputabIeDog · 08/06/2017 12:06

Just to join in on this, I'm using a computer without ad-blockers today and

Oh. My. God.

There's the cheap spammy "Throw these 16 storecupboard..." ones along with the Travel ready advert which are filing the sidebar. But the Google Music one???!

All over the background, a panel running behind the text that makes it unreadable anyway, two panels down either side, one of which is partially blocked by a moving cat screen and while we're on it...THE MOVING CAT SCREEN WITH LOUD MUSIC THAT COMES ON WHEN YOU HOVER NEAR THE DOWNWARD SCROLL THINGY!!!

Sorry (notsorry) for shouting but this is how the screen feels now. I've half a mind to report Mumsnet to Google for being really bloody annoying, they're cracking down on crappy, poor UI sites now aren't they?

It's not about keeping the lights on or whatever other platitude you try and fob us off with. This is too much and you are sacrificing long term loyalty for short term profits.

Hi

thanks for flagging the new widget. We've got a thread about it and so please do leave any feedback there.
Thank you

FruBayerischOla · 08/06/2017 15:48

You do realise that I already posted a link to the widget thread a wee bit upthread, Roger?!

Maybe it's worth checking your 'Threads I'm On', Ariawyn?!

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 08/06/2017 15:51

Gosh Fru, you really don't like the same thing being said twice do you Grin

FruBayerischOla · 08/06/2017 16:11

Sorry Blush Smile

Gingernaut · 11/06/2017 22:51

Is this ad appropriate?

Awful clickbait adverts
FruBayerischOla · 12/06/2017 18:24

Gingernaut. That isn't one of those 'widget'/clickbait ads which is part of MNHQ's advertising programme - it's on an AdChoice 'space'.

MNHQ sells a couple of spaces to AdChoice, which, unfortunately, frequently come up with ads such as you've posted. But, MNHQ, are always happy to hunt them down and 'ban'/block those types of ads!

The AdChoice spaces can be identified by a little blue arrow at the top right hand corner.

CarolineMumsnet · 12/06/2017 19:40

Thanks for flagging this ad Gingernaut and thank you Fru for hopping on to explain things Cake.

We're pinging this onwards and upwards now. If you see anything else a bit 'off', just let us know.

Gingernaut · 12/06/2017 21:03

Thanks Blush

NicolaMarlowsMerlin · 13/06/2017 17:15

Came here to complain about the surrounding ads - they are incredibly distracting to the extent of making me feel seasick. Please get rid of them!

SealSong · 13/06/2017 19:32

AND the surrounding/side banner ads squash and therefore shrink the main text size so that it is so tiny it is unreadable on my ipad mini!

MNHQ please do something about this.

These ads are the cheapest of cheap looking ads ever, why MNHQ do you think these are acceptable?

LornaMumsnet · 23/06/2017 08:48

Thanks so much for the feedback.

We'll pass it all over to our adops team. Flowers

user1496069596 · 23/06/2017 16:46
