I know a lot of posters with disabilities avoid toilet/car parking threads, so I thought those that do might want to see this response to the thread in aibu.

It's certainly different to the usual reponse that signposts 'this is my child'. What do you think? Better or worse?

Ah, that was bad timing. Sorry.

SynysterGates · 22/05/2017 16:14

one thing that made that thread worse was the "oh i wouldn't use it if I saw a disabled person coming" type post.
as if disabled and people with conditions wear a big badge.
also the othering. it seems you can't be a mother, if you are disabled or caring for a disabled person......you become something else.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/05/2017 16:22

Yes the "disabled against mothers" posts were a bit jaw dropping....

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/05/2017 16:27

picklemepopcorn

As mentioned above talking about toilets isn't disablism, but the post didn't all talk about toilets.

There was one saying that a disabled lady was like a 9 month old, so not much difference.

There were a couple pointed out above, about the thread being "The disabled against mothers." Making the disabled parents on the thread something other that parents.

There were posts saying if a saw a disabled person i wouldn't use it.

There were ones saying that having a disability isn't really struggling, disabled people shoudl make way for those parents "really struggling".

And on and on.

mychilddoesntlookdisabled · 22/05/2017 16:28

The post comparing having a disability to wearing a rucksack took the biscuit. As did the "old dears" which wasn't deleted last I checked. Despite being reported.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/05/2017 16:31

onje woman said she uses disabled toilets to breastfeed in....

mychilddoesntlookdisabled · 22/05/2017 16:34

I see all the counting down number posts on that thread have been deleted yet "old dears" still stands.

That's shocking hq.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/05/2017 16:40

That's shocking hq.

They won't listen. I very much doubt they'd reply.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 22/05/2017 16:44

Awful. I was so disappointed to see that particular thread still going with barely anything from HQ. And that response on it takes the piss. And here are posters with disabled children yet again bringing up disabilism in another site stuff thread.

I'm going to stick to fluffy threads in Style or TV addicts. Too heartrending to bother wading into the fray on disabilist threads or being expected to educate others on what it's like caring for a disabled child/putting up with fuckwits. Especially when it feels like HQ doesn't have your back.

mychilddoesntlookdisabled · 22/05/2017 16:49

I wonder how long it would take to delete a post if I referred to a certain group of people as golliwogs? I bet that would go on seconds.

Yet disability and age have the same protection as race. Why are they treated so differently?

mychilddoesntlookdisabled · 22/05/2017 16:53

Actually. Ignore that. I'm going to start my own thread on that.

picklemepopcorn · 22/05/2017 17:04

Ok, sorry, it wasn't like that when I was on it. That's appalling.

As for looking disabled, you're right, I'll take that on the chin. (I think I probably went for the 'someone else looks like they are heading for it' vibe, though, but still). Thank you for pointing it out.

ilovesooty · 22/05/2017 17:12

Yes the post with the reference to old dears is still standing, despite reports hours ago.

mychilddoesntlookdisabled · 22/05/2017 17:36

Sooty it's gone now but it took a long time, and the posts counting down numbers were gone far far quicker. I would love to know why.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/05/2017 17:41

spamming i would presume.... or assume.....

Although count downs aren't against the rules as far as i know.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 22/05/2017 19:50

I was wondering as I posted the links to other toilet threads if they were gonna be deleted for spamming. They weren't.

I thought that there had been a decision by MNHQ that posts reported for disablism would be clearly identified as such when the post is deleted.
