Thread deletions/removal/hiding/locking

Yesterday there were at least 3 follow up threads about that discussion. Yes, the hot-dog one.

Genuine question to MN admins - (as I don't feel that I've been on MN long enough to know what is/isn't a troll or a pbp) - would it not be easier for MN to put a note at the top and tail of a thread saying that this is a troll/pbp and then lock it rather than deleting the first thread and then having to police the subsequent TAAT?

That way posters who have invested time in reading the thread can see why the thread was deleted (they don't get a message informing them as to why if they haven't posted on it) and it would (imo) cut down on the TAAT nonsense??

Maybe????

If you read it in your browser rather than the app you can see the deletion message by searching your browser history even if you didn't post on it. Locking it just leaves the troll with their work on display for posterity, they don't deserve that.

Thanks Wh0Kn0ws but I do read MN in a browser. I rarely use the app to read it. I searched and couldn't find the threads. I think one of them I even added to my "Watched" threads and I didn't see the deletion message. I've seen other deletion messages in the past but this one didn't appear on my screen.

Perhaps a time-out system that will delete all troll threads after 7 days once they are locked. That way no one can add to them and you have 7 days to read the thread and move on.

It's just a suggestion to the MN admins in the end.

No because you then have shitloads of people starting threads about why it could be locked... people get over invested but watch/mark place and you should get the deletion message

Hello!

Ah yes, the infamous TAAT.

Thanks so much for the suggestion, we're always happy to hear feedback.

We'll make sure this gets into the right hands.

I was just going to come on and suggest a similar thing.

Could you have a locked/pinned thread in Site Stuff which just lists the thread deletions from the last 14 days or something and gives a short explanation (the one that people who have posted on the thread see in their Threads I'm On).

Locking it would stop people commenting on the individual deletions. It would also prevent the 'did XYZ thread get deleted?' TAATs.

I like the idea of a list of deleted threads and the reasons - obviously without the thread content.

We've obviously had "cake" today and the follow ups on it.

I mainly use the app - so can see a deletion but not why.

It would be useful for that notification to link to the deleted threads.
