Would anyone be interested in a Autoimmune Disease thread in Health?

I've asked MN Admin & they've asked that a post a thread on Site Stuff to guage interest.

On a recent thread it appears that they were quite a few of us who have IBD, (Crohn's disease or Ulceritive Colitis) and other conditions either associated with this disease or other AI disorders.

If you'd be interested in this as a new topic under Health please post on here. The more responses this thread gets the more chance of it happening.

Would be good to have a suppprt thread out there.

There's so many of us.

Thanks to each and every one of you for posting & sharing your daily battles with your own AI disease or family members going through this too.

I really do hope MNHQ give some thought to making this a topic in Health. Some of you have very rare conditions and it would be lovely to be able to find a corner of MN for you to find others who are going through similar daily battles, who can offload and feel like someone really knows what they're going through. Others have loved ones who are newly diagnosed and just want a hand to hold or advice on what the future holds. Some of us would like to know about different meds, or how your treatment has been so far. Good or bad.

It's hard. I for one feel like my dp is probably sick of listening to me. He's been quite supportive but tbh he's not the best at knowing what to do with me when I'm struggling. Would be nice to know there's a corner of Mumsnet where I could occasionally vent or ask questions.

Keep on posting people.

Yes please! I have Crohn's and PA (in fact you actually don't want to know my full list of ailments, it's slightly embarrassing how thick my hospital notes are Blush ).

DP has Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and DSis has RA.

BigGrannyPants · 08/04/2017 00:50

My diagnosis seems to be never ending at the moment, it's literally one thing after another. I'm fed up of being in and out of hospital and I'm fed up of bad days. Had a bad day today and had to spend it in bed while my DH looked after our DCs when he was meant to be working

ExplodedCloud · 08/04/2017 00:53

I commented earlier but if it helps to seal the argument, I'm being tested for MS. I don't know where to look for people who know. It isn't 'life limiting' hopefully. It's chronic as opposed to acute. General Health moves along. As do chat etc. I started a thread in GH and has some nice replies but I know from SEN threads that it's great to jump on to a thread about the condition, read experiences and ask a specific question.

shadow ha! The elastic bands holding the bundles of files is a horror isn't it?

INeedNewShoes · 08/04/2017 01:36

I think it's a great idea!

I've got UC. Thankfully it's currently in remission after a few years of trial and error with various meds ending on Azathioprine which seems to have sorted it out for now. Just want to give hope to anyone considering Aza that it can work and that I took it with no nasty side effects.

70ontheinside · 08/04/2017 12:08

Anybody with Pemphigoid/Pemphigus yet, or can I be the first?

Amockingjayhey · 08/04/2017 13:00

I have had elastic bands. But then my elastic banded files seem to have gone a wandering when we relocated. Now it's a small amount of paperwork and mainly on computer so no more elastic bands.

Interest duly noted VioletLips - thank you! We are passing this all on now.

VioletLips · 08/04/2017 14:12

Thank you Caroline Smile

Will I sound too much of a 'suck-up' if I say thank you too?
Some AI diseases are very rare (such as the one dc1 is currently hopefully permanently in remission from).
Rarity alone can be very isolating, as well as frustrating because it can be difficult to see an actual specialist (thank you Dr Jayne of Addenbrookes!) but also, if you don't for the age demographic of a 'typical' sufferer, that can make it even worse.

mineofuselessinformation · 09/04/2017 19:42

fit

Curiousrugbymum · 17/04/2017 22:39

Thank you for the update HQLorna, fingers crossed

FlissMumsnet · 21/04/2017 16:15

And the answer is......

YES.

There will be an Autoimmune Disease Thread, on the condition that it gets sufficient traffic in the first few months.

Bear with us, it may take awhile to get up and running but it will happen. Grin
