Trolling

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is trolling and why do people do it?

For example there is a thread about a greedy boyfriend who steals food, which people are saying is a troll, but why on earth would someone make this up?

I don't know. But as well as the troll threads, I don't see the point of the threads where the OP knows they aren't being unreasonable, because they are acting in a way that all right minded people would consider reasonable, but they start a AIBU thread, presumably knowing full well that everyone is going to agree with them - that almost seems like trolling to me.

For example, there was a thread the other day where someone wanted to dress their DS in their DDs hand me down snow suit, which fit and was still in good condition, but was a purplely colour, but apparently other members of the family were saying this was highly inappropriate and that the DS would be traumatised for life, his penis would fall off and he would catch the gay.

So she had to ask AIBU if she was right, presumably knowing full well that no-one on here is going to disagree with her and even if they did, they wouldn't post about it.
