Where's [gin] when it's needed?

Starting a new thread as this would sound rather off on the one to which I refer.

I find the Zombie 'home fire' thread incomprehensible. Not because I disagree with it, or want to spoil it or anything.

But because person after person has posted just blank squares. Now, I assume they are a non MN emoticon of some sort. But they can't be read by all devices, and whereas usually you can guess by context you just can't when that's the entirety of the post.

Which got me thinking about MN emoticons again, and ask - as in the thread title - where's Gin when you need it?

Sad It would be so fitting, and good to be able to tell her.
cozietoesie · 27/01/2017 23:55

In fact - on the app - there's a space just sitting there empty. A Gin emoticon would round things off nicely. Smile

JustineMumsnet · 28/01/2017 00:04

Agreed it's a great idea and a fitting tribute. We'll get on it. Gin

cozietoesie · 28/01/2017 00:46

Thanks, Justine. Smile

RancidOldHag · 28/01/2017 10:25

You're a Star Justine!

Now, will it be bottle or glass?

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 28/01/2017 10:26

Or a pipeline.....

JustineMumsnet · 28/01/2017 10:50

We'll have a look around for suitable candidates. Feel free to post any good emoji examples.

Boogers · 28/01/2017 10:55

Just going back to the blank square thing, mine has started doing this and it started the day of the https update. I always use my Nokia phone and could load pictures fine before, but now they're all the blank square with the folded over corner, like the software isn't recognised by my phone. What do I need to do with my phone to be able to read these again?

RainbowDashing · 28/01/2017 10:57

Oh I'm so pleased this is going ahead.

Hmm is the best emoticon ever and I really wish I could use it outside of MN. I may have to print it out and glue it to a SCD scoring paddle so I can channel my inner Craig Revell Hallwood

picklemepopcorn · 28/01/2017 12:02

🍸That's a martini with an olive, for those whose tech does not deal with it. It's not a good example, but it is a start! I'd go for a good, squared, green bottle with a white lid and a white label saying drink me.

cozietoesie · 28/01/2017 12:10

I remember vaguely an old old movie scene of Frank Sinatra making a martini. He poured the Gin lavishly into the glass and then took a vermouth bottle, upended it and extracted the cork. He 'dabbed' the cork twice on the rim of the glass and then......thoughtfully.... went for a third dab. (I can't remember whether he executed that third dab - personally, I'd have left it at 2. Grin)

KnottyAndPistey · 28/01/2017 12:11

Could this somehow be worked Justine?

:)

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 28/01/2017 12:15

Are those bottles full gin or empty wine ?

KnottyAndPistey · 28/01/2017 12:23

Gin, natch, and well, they were full

Halo
cozietoesie · 28/01/2017 12:29

Have a look for images of 'green bottle', Justine. (I don't know about copyright but you're the one that has teams for that. Wink)

I don't think anyone else has made an emoji of them.

Easy enough to create this one.

cozietoesie · 28/01/2017 13:01

PS - and ignore the whimperings of Sales and Marketing. Grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/01/2017 22:07

If you're doing it for Z, she doesn't like gin!

She drinks whisky or a pint of ale.

I think she would like the pint of ale as she has been known to reprimand MNers at meet ups who like a pint but haven't ordered one in the circumstances because it's not ladylike Shock !

Feel free to do a gin one too

FadedRed · 28/01/2017 22:25

How about a row of optics? Then we can choose our poison.

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 28/01/2017 23:07

On the other hand, the gin pipeline seems to be what's keeping the Phalanx going at the moment, so maybe Gin as a collective memory is appropriate...?

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 29/01/2017 00:18

Bewitched. I keep wanting to say that on the thread, but don't feel really comfortable doing so, so I've kept quiet. I don't think half of MNHQ much like gin either...I think it's just becomse 'a thing' that symbolises alcohol & friendship really.

This is much more Zombie 🍺🥃
😁

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 29/01/2017 00:45

You're right Chipping about the symbolism and I think it's been there for decades, if not centuries.

Mother's Ruin was gin wasn't it?

Only replaced when we got Valium, (mother's little helper) which of course was soooo much better .

Torch
cozietoesie · 29/01/2017 01:40

I like that second emoticon, Chipping. (The generous tumbler of the amber liquid.)

I could live with that. Grin ( And we could say it was a Gin and It for gin drinkers. Smile)

HoneyDragon · 29/01/2017 01:43

Zombie always dispensed the gin in a blue bottle on here in times of strife. Particularly to Helen and Olivia.

That's why she is, on Mumsnet, fittingingly associated with gin.

JustineMumsnet · 30/01/2017 17:44
