Can you change back to a previous username?

I NCd for a particular thread a while ago but when I tried to revert back to it was told that that username was already in use.

Is it possible to go back or once you've changed names that's it?

I have gone back to previous names before.

cozietoesie · 01/12/2016 20:29

You should be able to. Once you've chosen a name, it's generally reserved for your use only. Give it a little time and try again.

fruitbats · 01/12/2016 20:31

If the name was yours, you can type it in the username box immediately above where you write a new post and it will just overwrite your current name

fruitbats · 01/12/2016 20:32

And if you look in your mn account, there will be a list of all usernames that you have held previously

Nineloves · 01/12/2016 20:32

I hadn't realized that. I keep trying to name change back and get forced to put a number in.

Hassled · 01/12/2016 20:34

I certainly can (on a laptop). Is it a desktop version versus mobile thing maybe?

catsnickedallmypens · 01/12/2016 21:48

Hi All, thanks for your replies. fruitbat I know on my account page it lists all the previous names but if I click on one of them nothing happens and if I put an old name in the box it says username is already in use. Didn't know about putting an old name in when doing a posting though.

Am usually on a laptop Hassled

cozietoes I've tried that but to no avail.

If you log out first and then go in again, it will do everything via your registered email as the start. Maybe that will cut the Gordian knot?

If you're feeling brave that is! Grin

I think if you ignore that it says the name is in use, put your password in and save, it'll work anyway. Just a misleading message in my experience.

JingleBellsJuliet · 07/12/2016 15:53

Just testing to see if it posts under my festive username!

cozietoesie · 07/12/2016 16:23

If in doubt, check in the box above where you post. That should show the name you'll be posting under. Smile

Pestilence13610 · 07/12/2016 16:31

Ignore the message that says the username is already in use. It is already in use by you.

NewtRipley · 09/12/2016 16:25

Just testing

FlissMumsnet · 11/12/2016 20:09

Hi catsnickedallmypens, excuse us barging in - just wondered if this is still an issue?

Lelly78 · 02/01/2017 20:53

Can I test too?!
