Because I'm thoroughly cheesed off at the sizes available. I was delighted to hear about the plans for Mumsnet Ts and badges etc, and I was perfectly willing to pay to advertise Mumsnet on a shirt, because I was sure that Mumsnet - being in touch with REAL women - would ensure that there were REAL sizes available.

What d'you mean??? What sizes are not available?

Northerner · 16/06/2004 14:15

I've just been to have a look and they only come in Small & Medium.

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:18

which products are you talking about?

the ladies fitted t shirts are pretty small (only up to a 36" chest) but the beefy Ts go up to XL

Toothache · 16/06/2004 14:18

Really???? And what does that ACTUALLY mean? I'm a 16.... sometimes that is a Large.

MUMSNET!!!

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 14:20

What mumsnet shop????????

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:21

Mumsnet do not actually manufacture or buy in these products - it's a standard range that we choose from. As I say, the beefy Ts go up to a larger size, but the fitted things only go up to a 36" chest size. I am more than happy to email makemymegastore to complain on your behalf though! They responded very quickly to the lack of toddler gear.

Toothache · 16/06/2004 14:22

lol Thomcat - Have you been sleeping?

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:22

blimey I see what you mean about the fitted tank though - hadn't noticed it's TINY!!!!

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 14:23

Oh yeah, found it, and why DO they only come in S & M???? Who can tell me the average dress size for the UK woman????? I know it and it ain't a small!

Fio2 · 16/06/2004 14:24

I think its size 16 thomcat

I am 14-16 and TALL so I need extra length on the t-shirt too picky picky

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:28

OK I have emailed makemymegastore asking if they can supply ladies fitted t-shirts in REALISTIC sizes. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

The beefy t goes up to a 48" chest, but it's not fitted.

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 14:30

Exactly Fio!
I won't be buying anthing from the mumsnet shop either.
I know you can't please all the people all thetime but you're not going to please very many at all only offering only a S & a M. A M and a L would have been better. Working in the rag trade from years gone by it was the bigger sizes that sold out quickest to all the other retailers we sold to and we bout our stock on a 1:2:3 ratio or 1:2:2.

Tetley · 16/06/2004 14:32

I want one of those fitted T-shirts with a hood, or the tank-top one, but I am definately a large
I hope you can get some proper sizes in them...

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 14:35

PS I do know that bought is not spelt like bout!

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:38

I've started another thread re: sizes with all the details.

I apologise to all who are offended by the lack of larger sizes - I assumed standard sizes would be offered and didn't think to check.

As I say, I have emailed makemy to ask them what they can do about this.

prettycandles · 16/06/2004 14:43

Why are 'beefy' Ts acceptable for big women? How many slender women want to hide in a potato sack?

Well, I'm far from slender, but that doesn't mean that I should have to hide myself!

What makes me really cross is that Mumsnet - MUMSNET! - should subscribe to the attitude that potato sacks are good enough for the fatties.

tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:44

As I have said on the other thread "beefy T" is the Hanes brand name, not a reference to the shape of the wearer.

prettycandles · 16/06/2004 14:45

Tech2, I don't mean to make a personal attack. I would have phrased it differently if I seen your last post.

OP posts:
marthamoo · 16/06/2004 14:45

Are you having a bad day, tech2 ?

Beccarollover · 16/06/2004 14:46

Beefy is an unfortunate name for TShirt but surely its not titled Beefy as a description of its wearer! It must just be a brand name or something surely?

prettycandles · 16/06/2004 14:46

Of course beefy doesn't refer to the wearer - I'm not cross enough to think that! But it does mean the plain, boxy, unfitted shirts, doesn't it!?

OP posts:
tech2 · 16/06/2004 14:49

yes moo

Justine (mumsnet) · 16/06/2004 14:50

Hi guys,
Just back from filming. You are quite right to complain about the crappy size options - we will pass on your complaints to the host site and I'm sure they'll give us some more options. Sorry not to have spotted it ourselves - my fault not Tech2's - and thanks for the feedback. We will act on it toute de suite, as they say.
Justine, Carrie and Rachel

oliveoil · 16/06/2004 14:53

Oh stop moaning you grumpy old mares, I won't even fit in a beefy at the mo with my preg lump.
