Beautifully done.

I've skimmed it but don't want to get dragged in. From the looks of it MNHQ you've made very good choices about which posts to remove while keeping genuine discussion going.

Manumission · 10/11/2016 13:40

Yes, it can't be an easy balance.

Troll as it turns out, but still well-handled.

It's a shame they have to delete now though. All the posters who were incredibly disablist will feel justified in their comments. They'll think it was fine because it was a troll anyway and ignore the fact that they were awful. I get why it has to go though.

Manumission · 10/11/2016 13:51

At least they've outed themselves. And maybe they learnt something. Maybe Hmm

Oh gosh, the double posting has escalated to triple - Sorry! Blush

They were Navy, but I know what Did means - some will think it's all expunged from history, no lessons learnt.

I don't know what is more depressing- that someone decided to troll to stir up disablism or that so many ignorant posters were happy to oblige. Agree that MNHQ handled it well though.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 10/11/2016 14:00

Hi all
While it's a shame to delete a thread when there has been some good discussion and mythbusting going on- we find troll threads breed more troll threads so we have to zap them really. Sad Thanks.

Manumission · 10/11/2016 14:16

Of course MNBecky.

Anyway; It's more the fact that it's a troll thread that will make some feel they were justified all along, I think.

I found the comments from some mumsnetters so upsetting (before they got deleted) and it comes up every time there is an autism thread, the ignorance is ridiculous and no excuse for it as autistic posters have said time and time again our experiences, tried to tell them what it's like, how insulting some of the comments are and it's ignored. Confused and people say we're the ones with a communication problem Hmm

Yes tbf the majority was different, but still some stupid remarks, but suppose that's life isn't it, silly ignorant people in all walks of it!

JustAnotherSadOldNumber · 10/11/2016 14:34

Navy I think that part of that is HQ tackling the disablist posts before the bandwagon jumping happened. Which had a knock on effect that reports and complaining about little things did get out of hand and people were happy to educate.

Didijustgetwinkpointshitcanned · 10/11/2016 14:35

I've found the thread quite upsetting too. It was the comments about OP staying at home or that she should have used common sense like her autism just didn't affect her. It's hard knowing that people we interact with in real life might be thinking similar things and it makes me even less likely to disclose to people.

JustAnotherSadOldNumber · 10/11/2016 14:35

Didn't get out of hand*

Yes, even though it was a troll thread what a saddo it was handled really well.

FlissMumsnet · 11/11/2016 20:35

We're chuffed to know you think we handled it well.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/11/2016 21:04

I'm sure someone will disagree with me but in light of recent events you were very quick to shut down any shit and I think generally we all behaved very well.

I think we deserve stars Grin

I'm actually kind of upset it was a troll. I felt so bad for the OP when she started that thread and it wasn't even genuine Sad

Manumission · 12/11/2016 23:22

IKWYM but there are thousands of aspies out there that genuinely have to contend with similar, so it was representative of RL anyway.
